Talk to a few people at the bar of a rural pup and your almost certain to meet someone who has a tale about the reasling of urban city foxes into our countryside.

This topic is causing a bit of constervcy in our countryside in these past few weeks. Gamekeepers have shot foxes with stiching and ampututations even castrastions :( The poor things dont no what there doing, not showing any fear of humans. Im sure that this is gong on around here i went out and had a look from my fence the other night and shown arcoss the back feild and counted 12 adult foxex in the same feild :icon_eek: We would not go realeasing rats caught down the local bugerking so why foxes????

A country myth or a widlife crime you decide?

I bumped in to one fox over the back a few weeks back and he didnt show the slightest bit of bothered. He ran about 5 yards looked at me then simply walked of. Anyone else suspect this around there area.

I thought it was well known the rspca release rescued fox into the countryside, thinking they are doing the right thing?

On a similar subject, i was watching a wildlife programme on the tv, could'nt believe they were hand rearing new born grey squirrels to release them back into the wild after the devestation they are causing the reds.

They also found a badly injured badger, a big old buck male. The presenter explained how he would have probably been fighting for his territory and had lost and been turfed out alone. So what did they do, put the poor old boy to sleep to prevent further suffering? NO they spent ages treating him to release him back to the wild to suffer the same fate all over again :icon_eek:

O.K this is a subject that really gets my blood boiling !

IT IS ILLEGAT TO RELEASE ANY TRAPPED VERMIN IN THIS COUNTRY !

I.E THE UK

THE RSPCA SEEM TO HAVE LAWS OF THERE OWN OR MAYBE THEY THINK THEY ARE ABOVE THE LAW ?

certainly seems that way to me ! (a lawfully abiding citizean !)

:hmm:

I'm always watching these shiity programmes, 'vets in practise' 'wildlife aid' etc they are always at it.

They are always relesing Grey squirrels, pisses me right off :censored: I'm going to ring the local animal shelter and say there is an injured rat in my garden soon, bet they would touch it. Mind you squirrels are different, there are all fluffy and cute..............

I think we had this problem down old pickle bridge where i used to walk down nice deep country in west yorks - youd see broad daylight on one walk at least one fox always a diffrent fox sometimes 2...each and everyday without fail if you walked down there. They wasnt that shy either simply just trotting off not too concerned about your presence and belive me you didnt get many humans down there.I remember once walking with my ex a summers day and under this gorsebush was a beautiful deep red vixen, she was stunning.I just stood there in awe at her,she simply looked at me,stretched and yawned and sauntered off - fit as a flea shiney coat and well covered. There was no game round them parts (pheasents ect) only cows/bull.If i hadnt have known any better id have swore it was a fox santuary  But what gets me is IF they had been realeased, without there fear of humans the poor fuckers wudnt stand a chance if id have a dog or gun with me.Slowey but surley over a space of 3 years they gradually declined - but it does make me wonder to this day if they was urbans that had been caught, fed well, ect and then put there which no i agree isnt on at all  Ok they wasnt really harming anyone execpt of course if they happened to be a sickley calf but the foxes wudnt stand a chance and then they have the cheek to rant and rave about hunting - DUH!!!

Think thats a bit of a country myth to be honest sure maybe theres a few that get released in the wild but not in great numbers i have bumped into loads of foxes over the years and it has often suprised me how laid back some can be stopping to check you out, i often get the feeling of being watched some evenings when i walk the dogs round the edge of a chalk quarry and sure enough up there on the bank is a big old dog fox checking me and the dogs out as cool as you like! he knows well that by the time the dogs are under the fence he can be long gone (maybe his luck will run out soon) i am also of the opinion that country foxes are usually in better nick than their town cousins have often been impressed by the shinny coats and great condition of some of the fox i see particually at this time of year...as for not showing fear for humans that reminds me of somthing that happend to a mate of mine a few weeks ago out for a bit of a shoot he bags a rabbit but as he puts down his rifle to go and collect it out shoots a fox and snatches his kill!!!he went back the next week and bagged another this time leaving it as bait sat ther for hours...nothing when hes back to his motor putting the rifle in the boot he see's fox and vixen sitting watching him! time hes got the gun out they have done a runner!...clever animal the fox!

It's no myth, it happens all over the country, and regularly too.

I think i encountered a dumped fox a few months ago in April. In the middle of the day i pulled the car up to watch a fox scouting a short grass field. It appeared to be quite confused and showed no fear of me nor the car, in fact it sat down for a short while and watched me before turning round and trotting under a hawthorn bush where it just sat down again and didnt move. The fox appeared to be "lost" and unsure of where to go....but whether it was a released fox or not, nobody can say for certain.:hmm:

Like i said iam sure there are a few released..i can only speak for my own neck of the woods which i know very well... i could take you to a couple of spots (one i mention above) where i could be certain of seeing fox at certain times of the evening some are like clock work...sure fox numbers are up but theres no mass in-flux of dumped foxes...not here anyway

i have on several occasions heard of town foxes being dumped in wales , and have seen town fox walk right up to a farmers land rover , the stupid fox thought he was in for a tasty snack off the occupants of the vehicle , all he got was lead supper .... i have personally seen a shot fox with a scare on it's belly , a sterile vixen ........... there is an up side to town fox being dumped in the country , and that is they are easy to hunt for up and coming young shooters :clapper:
