nothernlite 18,089
The gamest dog ive ever seen working was a straight wheaten/greyhound. I saw it work alongside ferrets could catch hares on the lamp. I remember seeing it kill a fox and 2 hares on the lamp. Then back out with the terriers in the morning and he got on a scent found it flushed it and hit it with such hatred it was pretty much dead. Then a few hours later it had a very lively fallow buck by the neck and it was going nowhere. When the dog was killed the owner never got another lurcher. R.i.p dutch. would you class that as a hard night 2hares and a fox ? Quote Link to post
Gaz_1989 9,539
if you get a wheatenx bred from the right stuff, and a bedlingtonx from the right stuff i think they'd be on even terms... even more so if they was 3/4 breds.. id have either breeds over a bull x any day ive never heard of any 3/4 greyhound 1/4 beddys not saying they dont exist tho if anybody has any pics of 1 stick it up edited to say both breeds are built completely diff and when crossed with greyhound shows which is why its about what suits you 3/4 Greyhound 1/4 Beddy 26"... Will be my new dog on Saturday. 3 Quote Link to post

To be fair I would expect most decent lurchers to be a able to do 2 hare and a fox on the lamp and then a fox and a deer the next day. Not exactly testing. Pre ban of course. Quote Link to post

I saw that dog do many things that made my jaw drop but some of them memories are best kept in my head and the others that saw it. There is a pic of me and that dog with 4 fox a roe and a fallow pricket from one days hunting. Even a quick walk out with usually resulted in something in the bag. As i said plenty more things to tell but they are not suitable for this forum. Atb 3 Quote Link to post
fitchet 788
Many an average lurcher will kill a fox on the lamp. But to do a good shift then to still be bouncing in the run the next day swollen muzzle and to hit a fox like that with such conviction. And then to pull a nice fallow after a good race .... Well either you all have world beaters or you havent hunted fox and fallow enough. Atb Quote Link to post

fitchet 788
Sounds a good dog fitchet what height was it ? At a guess about 24tts. I was only a youngun when i first went out with it and even i knew it was a goodun. Id like to get a wheaten x one day when i feel i could do one justice workwise. The only bad thing about the dog is he was stubborn and strong-headed. Was a b*****d for fighting in the kennel too. Atb 3 Quote Link to post
jimbobsmutts 44
Lots of folks say they prefer the bedlington x, but only reasons as to why mentioned so far are, that's what you keep in kennel Quote Link to post

He hasn't done a great deal I don't think. But he certainly sounds keen enough. Plenty of bonding and mooching over the summer and then he's gonna get tested with me next season that's for sure.
