Nuttall Pats ?

Recommended Posts

Ive always really liked patterdales but I was just wondering if they were any good for things other than going 2 ground. Im thinking of getting a pup I have seen quite a few for sale on internet already seem pretty easy to get hold of a pup but would want 2 use it for ratting and working the hedges for the lurchers etc not for any digging. Sounds stupid I know, people will say just get something more suited for what you want but I would just like a bit more info from people who own and work the breed especially brian nuttall lines. Cheers

I bought a pup direct from Brian in summer of 2011 by Bully out of Poppy. Really good looking pup and did all I asked of him. As keen as I have ever had - up for anything!!!! A genuine 'hold back' job - but sensible and steady with it.

However, he didn't get on with my big first x collie greyhound. They hated each other - to be fair, the collie was the problem more than the terrier. He is hell around small dogs and would have killed the terrier in the blink of an eye!!!

I sold the Nuttall when he was 14 months old a lad who hunts with the Taunton Vale - and he hasn't disappointed. He's well chuffed with him. He keeps in touch regularly and speaks highly of the little dog.

Every time I get an update I have a 'mini depression' and swear at the collie ha ha ha!

Brian was helpful and the dog had the pluck of a lion...pity the way it turned out for me though!!! He was always gonna be a good dog.

One man's misfortune and al that eh???

I have a patt that i hunt rabbits with Bushing an that an shes putting a good few out to the dogs she gets a few herself I love to watch her work vocal is well.Maybe Theirs better dogs for the job but i cant fault her My Friend has one to jacko from here,an he says the same well an happy!I have had plummer before that worked good we dog to but i have to say when the patts pick up a sent its like a switch goes off in their head from calm to mental ha!Very hard dogs no problem bulldozing through thick thorn bushes as for around the house quiet enuf rarely barks unless someones about which is what ya want.Good with other dogs so far but shes still only a year.I got her from a young lad in tipperary said she was nuttal lines but as said could be just sails pitch. With a patt if trained right you wont be dissapointed hope this helps best of luck finding the dog right for you!!!

Borderscott he is a wee cracker its a killer some times the way things turn out!at least ya you get to Ring the lad that still has him to get updates on hes huntin.Never easy giving away dogs that ya have as a pup!

As I said i my post Fonzie - the lad gives me regular updates and it's worked out well. I'da kept him here rather than let him go to an arsehole. I'da hated to see that big collie kill him. I'da worked around it though if I hadn't been able to get him away to a decent lad. The wee dog might not have reached his full potential though...which woulda been a shame.
