Gaz_1989 9,539
How many times a day do you feed and what is your logic behind it? I've got a mate who feeds once a day and thinks I'm mad feeding twice a day. Got another mate who leaves dry food available 24/7 and the dogs graze as they wish. Both lads dogs are good grafters in top condition. I feed raw in a morning, chicken carcass or lamb neck with 1/2 lb of tripe or chicken mince and then a scoop of dry food at night (markus Muhele) with a tablespoon of cod liver oil 3 nights a week. I like feeding 2 meals so that if I go lamping they've had breakfast in them and then they get a meal after lamping to bed them down. Just curious as to what others do?

nothernlite 18,089
one good meal a day helps then work rest and play lol
littlefish 587
I usually feed twice a day - morning and night after exercise. Some times fed once a day depending on whether they are doing much.....I never ask a dog to do a lot just after feeding.

Gaz_1989 9,539
I think a kenneled dog needs a bit more grub in winter to keep the weight on.

LaraCroft 863
Mine are fed once a day. They are designed to eat a big meal every so often, then nothing - not like herbivore grazers. If out working, they get a light mince meal lunchtime, and some mince/soup/warm on coming back. They get the odd treat in the day, if I'm feeling nice, but thats all

Just common sense to me really. They gonna need a few more calories.

If the outside kennels are good, and draught free etc, it isn't a prob - but most are not enough to stop a dog from needing to use energy to keep warm
