Anybody Had A Pup Which Never Stopped Whining?

A few years back I bought a deer/grey pup.

I kenneled it with two other dogs with a heat lamp at nights.

It whined and howled for a full month.

The other dogs were fine with it.

When I walked it it would whine non stop.

In the van it would whine non stop.

The only time it stopped whining or yodelling was when I stroked it or picked it up.

After a month my nerves and my partners nerves were fecked and the neighbours coud'nt stand it any more so I gave it to a rescue for rehoming.It would have made a good pet for someone who could be with it 24 7.

I still think about what if anything i did wrong?

Anybody had a pup like that?

Somebody told me deerhounds can be whiny. Is that right?

My saluki grey never stops whining... Hes getting a little better now, hes 12mths.

might be right, never had deerhoundxs , but all dogs are differnt to each other, they all got there own temps, even if same breed or in this case same kind of x. It like saying all bullxs are going to have same amount of tenacity, there not like any dog each one is differnt. My pup 1x gsdx grey dont like the car, he wont keep still in the back, and he would winge in the back or bite Bryn lol. He is bit better but not alot, now is litter mates from what ive been told travel ok,same as is sister is very full on he is bit sensitve same litter but all differnt .So its each dog not a breed or type with mental probs .!!

My pup, now 14 months was a sod for whining when I first got her, took a long while for her to stop, at worst she would end up howling like a bloody wolf, this was in the house with the other dogs. Drove me mad, but it seems along time ago now....she's like a different dog.

I had a Saluki/Greyhound -X- Whippet bitch that whined a lot and for me even a little bit is too much.

I would give her a two hour run in the morning including a swim in the local lake if it was warm followed by a feed when we got home and she would still whine like she had not been through the door for a week.

In my limited experience it is something that one is much less likely to come across in the big stoical terrier crosses.

The most interesting theory I have come across is that all dogs whine to a greater or lesser degree its just that the PITCH of some sometimes falls within human hearing range.

And here lies the problem

Some are whining a lot and you just cant hear them, a bit like being unable to hear bats squeaking as they fly about on summer evenings.

Some are whining all the time within the human hearing range and pissing everyone off.

And some are fluctuating the pitch and seem to be only whining occasionally.

I would yell at her and she would shut up for a while, but if, in theory at least, she was SOMETIMES times whining in a pitch beyond my hearing - and I am the wrong side of fifty so its entirely possible - then my chastisement would have been very inconsistent and totally baffling to the poor dog.

She has now gone to live with a couple with a whole bunch of Lurcher's and last I heard was still whining but they don't mind.

Q- Is it an inherited trait?

Well I for one think that it is.

If a bitch that just whines occasionally is paired with a dog with the same propensity then surly the pups are going to have this same trait as the sire and dam, or even worse in a double dose!!!

And if the parents are kenneled outside the fault is much more likely to be overlooked.

Lets face it,far too many lurchers are being bred off parents with much worse faults than whining that should have taken a one way trip to the vets before their second birthday.

The miracle is that there is not a far greater number of whiners out there.

I had the same happen to me with a bull x whippet. Whined and howled so much that enviromental health and rspca came here. Ended up rehoming her to live in a house. I find saluki crosses very vocal. The one I have has a clock in her kennel I think as she will howl at 630am to be walked and again at 6pm to be fed. She is quiet in between but is alway bang on those times each day

have you tryed putting him in the car without going anyware just go out to the car with him put him in the back

for 5 mins , dont start the engine . then take him back in the house .. maybe take hes food bowl give him some food in the car then take him back in .. little an often

had a bitch like this , now i thought it maybe had some saluki in it

 

had to rehome ,, neighbours were going mentol ,,, mrs wanted a divorce ,,, i thought feck um and tryed for another year

but in the end had to rehome .... never buy a dog just you feel sorry for it .. lesson lernt
