Deerhound Stud

Recommended Posts

Just wondering if anybody knows of any genuine working deerhounds that have a proven stud record when bred back to greyhound.

by working i mean taking fox on a regular basis ,not hes out of a working line as his great grandad once chased a rabbit.

not only work fox but has passed this trait on through to his pups.

hpoefully in ireland as thats where im from.

the greyhound bitch i have is proven and is very hard on fox she would put lot of lurchers to shame on red fela.

deerhound crosses dont have good rep over here , i belive if bred right should give us a real good chance of getting that all round dog.

bitch isnt in season yet but dont want to leave it to last min to find right dog , i have deerhounds available but not right sort or working so i wont use them . so would appreciate any help thanks.

not a fan of 3/4 bred lurchers my area doesnt really suit them if my hunting ground was different then probably would.

then again if i cant get the full bred working dog it might be considered. same critera would apply, doing fox and has already passed this trait on to a good proportion of whelps.

i bred litter of collie crosses last year 7 mths old at min collie dog was used with hounds and done his fox well

If your after a single haneded fox dog for stud for your bitch id not really be worried what X's it is id just be putting the fealers out for a suitable dog thats doing his job wk in wk out over a good few seasosns. Go see it work and if he's what you like or what your after in a stud use him. If not just keep looking till you find something suitable.

Real pure bred Deerhounds are hard too source as with all the bans in place theses days........

Iam sure theres plenty of good single haneded dogs over your side of the water

Its not just a single handed fox dog im looking. yes there are lots of single handed fox dogs here majority of which have a lot of bull in them im not really a bull lurcher fan even though i have had a couple of gooduns myself. If i was to use lurcher over greyhound i would automatically be into 3/4 or finer. i like the deerhound temprament. Also the way things are going here the rough deerhound type lurcher isnt liable to draw the attention of a tight bull cross, its just my personal preferance. although what you are saying would be good enough if i dont find what im looking for thanks
