Hob&Jill 258
Suppose the peg is a simple thing and not talked about much but was just wondering what you have on your nets? and why? All the best, H&J Edited July 19, 2007 by Hob&Jill Quote Link to post
doddsy1970 9
I use triangular hardwood pegs because they are easy to obtain and make. I make them in differing sizes and thicknesses for different types of ground. I.E. If the groung is sandy i use a long thick peg and if it is hard i have nets with thinner pegs on them Edited July 19, 2007 by doddsy Quote Link to post
Guest little_lloyd
I only bothered with tent pegs untill this season, but they are too findly and keep coming off. So ive started making my own Hazel pegs for this coming season Quote Link to post

Hob&Jill 258
Do you not find tent pegs bend or snap in hard ground? I Quote Link to post
Ricky-N.p.p 0
cant say i do mate, they tend to slip in between boaulders or rocks that are just under the surface, after a bit of prodding about that is ! Quote Link to post
Hob&Jill 258
Oops double posted, what type of tent peg do you use? Quite surprised at the results, I thought the triangle pegs would be on top. I use Natural pegs, Hazel mainly. Edited July 20, 2007 by Hob&Jill Quote Link to post
TOMO 26,435
what amazes me is the size of peg some people put on a net. 4-5 ins is plenty , a net only needs to be in the ground about 2" in firm ground to hold. i use hazel or privet, but last year a mate of the site came out with me( rob reynolds ) and he uses metal tent pegs they were the sort a bit like very thin angle iron. have to say i was impressd very easy to get in the ground Quote Link to post
J Darcy 5,871
Just small hazel ones.. I thinkg some people make their pegs far too big Good huntin' JD Quote Link to post
Garn 0
I use the hooped type metal tent pegs, never failed me yet. They're long enough to get a hold in the ground, and narrow enough to get between stones and roots, and go straight in more or less in frozen ground. Quote Link to post
stubby 175
I use plastic tent pegs, only cos Im tight, lol they were on offer 20 for £1-00 bright yellow with large palm friendly top so well easy to push in, and then doubles as a visual aid when collecting in the nets Quote Link to post
