Madcowz 0
H&J you and I are in the Weald of Surrey, comprises hard f**king clay. Lovely loam soil down to about 6 inches and then after that rock hard yellow clay. When I start ferreting I will be taking a JCB with me. /Mad Quote Link to post
J Darcy 5,871
The dales are the best place for a dig..about 9 inches of soil then rock, most of the rabbits were about a shovelful deep!! only ever had one deep do in the dales and that was right under a sodding dry stone wall give me a bolter any day Quote Link to post
Rabbithunter 456
oh yes RH mate, still getting mud out my ears now, that was about my biggest hole i have dug you and DEL dug it without a word of complaint or a drop of sweat. Was a bloody awful day though with them frequent showers. Its a shame we mis-placed the longnet on that last fence line we done if we hit that early this season we'll remember where the net goes this time (although this is part of the fence line we actually caught a few ) Hob&Jill, it was soft ground to dig, but the thing is every now & then you get a good load breaking off the sides. Garn 0
8 ft is the deepest I've ever dug and never again. To make things worse when I was pulling the rabbit out, some random bloke with an eye patch and a spaniel appeared and asked me what I was doing! I was in the middle of nowhere, and couldn't be seen from footpaths or roads. I tell people where I'm going now! The most i'll dig these days is 3 to 4 feet, but that's only if I've really had enough and want to go home. I reckon that more a warren is ferreted the more the chances of the ferret holding up Quote Link to post
jonathan 0
Does digging to a ferret collar count? I once dug 7' to a collar that came off first time i used it,at Grassington,it did'nt stop raining all day too,not my most enjoyable days ferreting i done that but it was only 6 foot deep but took ages and from this post you can tell who goes ferreting alot and who doesnt go if you no what i mean Quote Link to post
