Old Grey Mk1 & 2 Ferret Finders Or New Mk3?

Recommended Posts

Lads dont know if this topic has been on before but i couldnt find anything so i apologize if it has.Ive always used the grey boxes (mk 1 &2's but my mate has been using the mk3 when we have been out this season. Now ive took the plunge recently and got the new mk3m but to be honest i still prefer the old grey boxes.ive used my mates mk3 during this season even before i got my own but i still carry the greys and still find myself using them for pinpointing ferrets quicker. I dont know if its a case of stick with what you know or that im just not giving the mk3's a chance but i just cant wean myself away from the tried and tested grey boxes.Any of you find the switch over from the old to new the same? And which do you really prefer?

Yep it's been done before.

The answers will be the same, all but a small minority of the the older guys that started with a mk1 will say its better, and everyone that started with a mk3 will say thats better.

I think it's a lot like old fellas saying " you can't beat the good old British Bikes!" Well actually you can, Just about every Jap bike ever built was better, but Nostalgia and a fear of the new, make the old seem better.:laugh:

Totally disagree, i bought a mark3 for I think round about £140 which for a start is far too expensive.

The noise they make does your head in, what was wrong with just the same kind of tick of the mark one.

the depth gauge on the mark 3 is not accurate, there's lots of posts on here, saying it can be a foot out, and at £145 a pop you would expect it to be spot on.

It says a lot, when I put up a post, Would you buy a mark1 if Deben started making them again.

and there was a lot of Lads said yes.

They could have upgraded the mark 1 a bit, making the box bright Orange.

Deben bring out new models, for mugs like us to jump, take the mark2, again it was not as good as the mark 1.

I even think the collars on the mark 3 are nothing special.

Debens must realize the big money used mark1s are making on Ebay.

It will be interesting to see what the new Deben mark 4 will be like and will it hit the £200 mark.

I started with a mk3, had one for a couple of years. Then tried the mk1, loved the simplicity so have stuck to that. IMO, you need something that is going to show you where the ferret is and how deep....and that's it! you need that and nothing more so I don't see why you'd need to improve on that, it's adding features for the sake of adding features if you ask me.

Plus, I prefer the clicking sound to the horrible bleeping. I'll be sticking to the mk1 for as long as possible, the only time I'd get a newer on is if they make one that's exactly like the mk1 but waterproof, then I'd upgrade.

I still can't believe that nobody has started making boxes similar to the mk1 and totally undercutting Deben, if someone knew about electrics and made a box similar to the mk1 and sold it for about 50 quid they'd sell thousands!!! all it would take is for someone to do that and Debens prices would plummet overnight, I bet it costs them pence to make one of them boxes!

they would have them in court! if they did, as they wont part with the patent for them or the collars!!
