mole trapper 1,693
Titchy, would,nt want to piss on your fireworks but are you sure using snares on a golf course is the best way of going about it, A few things to consider, firstly you are asking to buy snares, that would imply you have little if any experience of using them, such a public place is not an ideal location to start learning. Snaring is once again under the spotlight, people dont like seeing rabbits dancing around in wires all bug eyed or strangled etc, i have met some of my most aggresive antis on golf courses that i preform rabbit and mole clearance on. You say that you have landed your first rabbit clearance service, does this meen you are being paid for it, if so you are going to have to perform a risk assesment for what ever methods of control you use, you WILL need insurance whether you are being paid or not, golf courses attract the sort of clients that know how to sue, if a member or even a non member sees something they dont like you will be out before you can say lickety spit. Just to remind you, snares must be checked at least once in every 24 hour period, but on a golf course you arent going to be able to put them down until half an hour before dark and you will most certainly have to check and take up within an hour of it getting light as the golfers are really early birds at this time of year. Not trying to be funny with all this, and if you are experienced in the above i apologise but as a professional i feel it has to be pointed out as we in the pest control industry are trying desperatly to keep hold of the tools/methods of our trade and incorect use/misuse of them will add yet another nail to the coffin. Regards MT. Quote Link to post
Yokel Matt 918
This is not a bandwagon hop but i strongly agree with MT on this... also knocking up a snare does require some degree of skill and knowledge so it may be best to either get someone to show you or get an example of a proper one to copy. With people starting at first light and rumaging around in the undergrowth for balls there is massive potential for a run-in and, as the customer is always right, you may find it over before it begins. Have a look into other methods (a golf buggy and airgun ) or netting / ferreting or pick your days for snaring carefully (ie. when the weather is shite and no-one in their right mind would be out chasing a ball with a stick. All the best Edit to say PM Woodga... get his DVD and a few wires off him and before long you'll clean up. Edited July 20, 2007 by LocalYokel Quote Link to post
Guest Bigbob
Got to agree golf courses aren't the place for snares, golfers and kids at this time of year are all over the rough looking for golf balls during the school holidays . I start about 4 am with my rimmy and go home when the first dog walker /golfer appears usually about 6am just now .Years ago they would close the course for a morning and let me walk round with a shotgun and the ferrets but them days are long gone too much money lost if they close nowdays .You will just have to find a way of working round the golfers i like ferreting durning the week when its quiet but you still get a run in with some golfers who see there golf course as a extension of there garden .A risk assment and a letter of permission saying what excatly you can do are the way to go Quote Link to post
TOMO 26,545
SAME AS THE OTHER PESTERS ON HERE MATE DONT SNARE IT. THIS TIME OF YEAR THIS IS BEST Quote Link to post
mole catcher 1
good advise offered by all so far. i have to agree, i look after a few golf courses and never does the thought of snaring enter my mind. The logistics are and would be a nightmare. get yourself a few long nets and ask a buddy to give you a hand as well as shooting you wont go far wrong FAO: moletrapper, those words were penned with passion and thought about the job in hand. as some might say, "" youve come a long way grass hopper"" edited to add, look at the size of the rabbit 3rd from the left row nearest camera thats a big boy, bet he was a bugger to skin? victoria vixen 0
Have to agree with mole catcher on that one. Well thought out and well written. One does need to keep things well away from those that disagree with the way we do things. Out of sight is often out of mind! Quote Link to post
