Huwidge 69
any x that has no bull saluki or whippet in it is a goodun been toying with this cross past few months after discovering the greyhound collie many years ago i would never change but my 1st x would be great to put a deerhound x over her run deerhound x when i was young and mixing in all sides of the dog game always thought about joining the collie and deerhound blood "any x that has no bull saluki or whippet in it is a goodun" got to disagree with you there mate. surely saluki would benefit when coursint a hare and a touch of bull would help on the reds. especially doing a few in one day/night. shaaark 10,787
i think they are quite hard to find ive never seen many advertised They used to be quite popular, especially for lamping, about 20-30 years ago, and seem to be getting so again. @ morton, I agree with what you say, it's just that our bitch has thrown greyhoundy, but has been easy to train, has a deerhoundy laid back nature, and is very quick off the mark and very very fast, with very good stamina She's quite a gentle soft natured sort, but can get into the no nonsense attitude in an instant, when she needs to, so she has everything we wanted, and if we breed from her in a couple of years time it'll be with the same x and type as her, there'll be no saluki, bull, or bedlington blood going near her Edited February 13, 2013 by shaaark 4 Quote Link to post

A touch of saluki or bull in a Deerhound/grey-Collie/grey,will take more from the breeding than it will add,it never needed it for many, many decades, only in poor and misguided breeding.3 dogs in the mix is hard enough to control and breed to some sort of type, adding another 2 to the mix will throw the breeding all over and take away from what the original model was all about,if it ain,t broken and all that?. 2 Quote Link to post
shaaark 10,787
what were they like on hares and fox PREBAN! Shit hot, brilliant mix, especially if they throw more greyhoundy maybe a deerhoundxgrey x bullx grey might be a better choise for the above pre ban, as deerhound might give better tenacity than collie in the mix , the dxg x bxg does sound like a good x , anybody ever worked them .? I appreciate the fact that everyone's got their own preferences regarding different crosses etc, but I really don't see the point in adding bull blood to ANY lurcher, never have. And the two best dogs I've seen taking foxes, along with everything else, and I mean everything, have been an F1 deer/grey and a deer/grey x collie grey. A l b Quote Link to post

beast 1,884
this cross was very popular in the eighties when i started out. i had a der/grey back to a pure collie, really good little bitch just lacked a little pace. i always wanted to put her to a good 3/4 collie grey but things didnt work out that way Quote Link to post
