Sirius 1,391
I like a dog with a good splash of collie/herding breed for the concentration among other things. But what ever the mix you need a good bit of luck, as you can't polish a turd.A good ferret dog needs more skills than almost any other form of Lurcher work IMO Edited February 20, 2013 by Sirius 4 Quote Link to post
Jamie m 668
I have a suliki bull grey whippet he loves his ferreting excels, I've put a lot into him as he was someone's cast off , not your average ferreting hound I thunk it's a case of the more you can put in front of them the better they will be , Quote Link to post
nothernlite 18,076
see I would like a good bred beddy whippet but I have never heard of anyone working them near Belfast they seem more popular in England i got mine from over that way cracking we bitch need to look a bit harder Quote Link to post
jimbobsmutts 44
A dog needs a lot of time spent on them to make them a good ferreting dog, and then they are a joy to have around I think Quote Link to post
fitchet 788
All 4 dogs i have here have a time when they come in handy on certain type of land. The best one ive had by far though was a collie/greyhound beddie/whippet. Hes the only one id call a ferreting dog but as i said the others have a time and a place. Quote Link to post
lawrence 657
like CJ i've a soft spot for the Bedlington lurcher myself, they suit me anyway, nose, early pace and the enough heart to hit hedges hard, all essential in a decent ferreting dog. though many others will also suit the bill. lurcherlad , i'm in Belfast myself, shame i hadn't seen this a few weeks ago as a bitch i bred was up for rehoming, litter sister to my own dog, whippet x bedlington/greyhound, i'll keep my ear to the ground for you. my fella 3 Quote Link to post
