I like a dog with a good splash of collie/herding breed for the concentration among other things. But what ever the mix you need a good bit of luck, as you can't polish a turd. A good ferret dog needs

like CJ i've a soft spot for the Bedlington lurcher myself, they suit me anyway, nose, early pace and the enough heart to hit hedges hard, all essential in a decent ferreting dog. though many others

Although its important to be able to catch on a run, i put more importance on marking.

A good marking dog, can save you a lot of time, and therefore put more rabbits in the bag.

I also like a dog under 23 inches, as i know some Farmers that wont entertain large lurchers on their ground.

My best was a Whippet X Bedlington, but presently working a young Whippet whom i am happy with.

didn't think whippets would have a good nose, but this one has, and will mark.

Waiting on a litter, which will be 3/4 Whippet 1/4 Bedlington, always had a soft spot for Bedlington Lurchers
