baw 4,360
PM Fuji on here Listen to his horror story, and be well warned. Well this is what happened to me when I crossed the line..im not sure if the penalties given were to make a statement by the Scottish Law authorities that if you do get caught abusing the wild mammal act then this is what will happen to each and everyone that does or I was just unlucky lol...what I will say is that coursing a hare in Scotland CAN result in a spell behind bars with 6 month the recommended sentence BUT in England,Wales it is NOT considered a jailable offence..in the 2 months it took from being caught until finally prosecuted and 3 visits to the Sherrif Court in Dumfries,my bail conditions prevented me even stopping to talk to any person who had a dog,I couldn't walk my other dogs more than one mile from my house..I was banned from Dumfries & Galloway other than to visit my brief...at the time I was caught they confiscated the motor and everything that was in it,dog confiscated and put into care of SSPCA,mobile phone, lamping equipment, clothing all confiscated..On the day I was convicted I was put on electronic tag from 6pm to 6am and in the Sherrifs words from the moment it gets dark until the moment it breaks light for 3 months,I got 12 months probation, the dog was seized and I still had to pay for her kennel fees for the two months in between being caught and convicted which amassed to over £1100,the motor, all lamping equipment etc was also seized and never returned,I was banned from keeping hunting type dogs for a period of 12 months...I wasn't convicted of poaching as there are laws in Scotland which allow you the right to roam...on release from Dumfries police station with hardly any clothing I was left 70 mile away from home stranded as the vehicle had been taken in what turned out to be one of the stormiest nights in history as it was this night that several bridges were washed away here in Cumbria and it was only several months ago that we got a new road bridge lol...so there you go..if you run the gauntlet my advice is don't lol...this was all over 7 or 8 poxy hares...No bullshit there folks, that's what and did happen ...I'm just a humble bunny catcher now...can't be f****d with all the shite that can come with chasing a few other bits and bobs about the countryside...Atb Andy 7 or 8 lamped Scottish hares!!! Should be ashamed of yourself mate 1 Quote Link to post

fitchet 788
Last season i had a run in with the police and RSPCA. Accidents do happen with dogs especially with the amount of deer about these days. I used to take my lurchers and bull terrier around the outskirts of an old tip where i used to live. It was very populer with dog walkers even at 6am when i used to walk round. Anyway one morning was doing the usual walk now up intil this point i hadnt even seen a rabbit or muntjak on this bit of land so i assumed my pack of dogs would be fine of the lead. Thats until one morning a young roe decided to jump up infront of all 3 lurchers and the terrier. As you can imagine was not a pretty sight but i got everything sorted as quick as i could and although i hadnt seen noone i sort of knew i was in the shit. Its all sorted now but what a palava !! I also had abit of hassle on some old gravel pit workings. There was an old feller who i think used to keep crayfish down there in traps. Anyway he always used to stop and chat and he was telling me how he dont mind me hunting the rabbit and fox but to leave the roe "stags" alone.i never used to lamp the pits but there was a dirt track around the outskirts snd i know a local lad used to setimes run his dog out of the motor up there at anything that popped up. Anyway was over there one evening just walking my pup and bull terrier with the airgun looking for abit of ferret food. Bumped into the old feller who had a right go saying he was getting sick of people killing his "stags" and that the police had been informed i just said ok and mady my way home. Next thing in the local paper there was an article on rural crime hotspots and the gravel pits were known acording to the paper to have badger baiters and deer poachers on them !! The police urged the public that these men were armed with shotguns machetes knives and powerfull "bull" types. Needless to say kept well away in future ! Im fairly lucky where i live now. Ive been walking some ground just around the corner from me big arable fields with dirt tracks through the middle. Bumped into the landowner q couple of nights ago and hes gave the go ahead to run whatever i want but to keep rabbit numbers in check. He qlso offered to show me and a mate some earths he wants clearing. Theres plenty of hares on there and ive seen maybe one or two walkers on there so the sighns look good. Dont get me wrong i like a run in greener pastures every now and again but when you have a few permission letters it can give you an excuse for the bootfull of game .... sneakysod 4
Some interesting ( ) views on this thread............. Here's the risk. If you are poaching and have a weapon, even an airgun, that's armed tresspass and you can be done for it. If you are poaching and the landowner calls the police who in turn call the RSPCA you can be done for trespass or aggravated trespass, or if the CPS don't want to bring a case against you, cruelty by the RSPCA who almost certainly will bring a case against you because it's good publicity for them. If you are after illegal quarry the RSPCA will be called in, because its cheaper and less bother for the police to let them have you. As stated before, you stand to lose your car, dogs, and anything else you have with you at the time of arrest. And fined. I've asked this before and never got a straight answer. Does anyone know... Can they confiscate the car if its not yours? Good question mate, what if car is your wifes and dog is registered with vet in her name, where do you stand re-confiscation?? Yours Pernod makes no odds if its part of a criminal act ...........its taken away for evidence .................dont matter who owns what if its been used for illegal activity kiss good bye ................. anything what can support evidence can be taken too,................eg computer, etc etc id lose my dog and let them try and catch it if they tried taking my dog Quote Link to post
Phil Lloyd 10,738
The few dogs that I've seen, lost in action..were shot from a fair distance... As for letting loose the jukel, if cornered or challenged,..that is the worst fecking thing to do...A lurcher running across a field, often gives trigger happy feckers, carte blanche to whack it... If it comes on top,..hold fast your dog and try and keep him tight in behind you,.. be prepared to defend him,..Don't let anyone take the dog from your hand.... If you are going to get done,..you might just as well have a battle,.. Edited May 9, 2013 by CHALKWARREN 6 Quote Link to post
