gav1212 16
Hi i'm looking into getting a whippet for next season to use with my ferret. I have never used a dog out hunting and i'm just wanting to know if they are a good dog to start of with. I hunt on ground that is very open with not alot of bush about so there is plenty of room for some great runs. Thanks Gavin Quote Link to post

gav1212 16
Yea ive been told to try out saluki crosses. The ground where i go is flat. I understand about whippets weak paws and thats what im abit worried about. Ive also been told a whippet/bedlington is another good dog. I think its because the whippet is small, that why im interested in them. Thanks Quote Link to post

There are some tough ones about. 3/4 whippet 1/4 beddy would be just up your street though. Quote Link to post
bryanm45 787
Got two small whip bitches 18"tts both, great for bunny's, nothing wrong with there feet but make sure you see the parents as some people just breed for the money. Quote Link to post
gav1212 16
Thanks for the info guys! Is there anyone on her from Northern ireland that has any? Quote Link to post
Neil85 22
I had a 24"tts whippet a few years back and he could do the lot. Very able well mannered dog but like any other, their only as good as the time/effort you put into training them. Highly reccomend a bigger one though but thats just my opinion Quote Link to post

Terrier Sam 297
Nothing against whippets mate but I have a 3 year old whippet and a 14 month old beddy whippet x whippet greyhound. The difference in speed is unreal mate. Very, very handy for bigger fields and he can also do the smaller fields like the whippet can. I do love the fun that the whippet gives though ATB with your choice mate Sam 1 Quote Link to post

paulus 26
a well bred whippet is a fine animal who has more pish said about them that most other dogs, i had one years ago a blue bitch 1994 sooty sam/silkcut lady she was the best marking dog ive ever owned, despite whats said she took her fair share of hares and was more than willing to pile in on fox, her working life was only 6 years as she developed joint problems but she was a pleasure to own and work.
