WILF 46,585
Do you really think so mate?, I think the rugby league players are as fit an athlete as you will find anywhere in sport......I would say there physical condition is head and shoulders above footballers. Not only are they very fit on a cardio vascular level, their body is also taking continuous hard punishment throughout the game. A perfect balance in my opinion. I remember I read that Lomu could do the 100 m in around 10 seconds.....the bloke was 17 stone at the time!! Not saying my above post is fact, it may be a load of old bollocks but its just my opinion. Being extremely fit in your body has nothing to do with a mental attitude in my book and " toughness" comes from the mind, not the body......again, JMHO pal
lanesra 3,994
Alonso could be a Big Player tonight , I still can't believe Liverpool sold him hoping to replace him with Gareth Barry !
TUFFTY 1,476
I dont agree Rebel.....look at the supposedly greatest side to ever play the game the 1970 Brazil side where was the " tough men " in that team ?.......The game tonight Utd v Real Madrid two of the great sides where are the tough men ?......Barcelona ? ok Puyol can put it about if he needs to but hardly in the Vinny Jones/Jimmy Case/Norman Hunter bracket is he...... Its only us Brits who have this " tough man " ......" get stuck in " attitude.......and thats why we are still lagging behind in world football.....dont get me wrong i love the excitement and speed of our game.....but i accept at the highest level its not about being tough its about being good. Imho, Its about both.....but "tough" is probably the wrong word to use, I would say mental & physical strength and unflinching commitiment What you say makes a lot of sense mate and I think there is a difference between just putting it about for the sake of being a "tough guy" and being a hard, committed, skilful player. To me, a fully committed tackle at full speed, genuinely focused on winning the ball without another thought in your mind is totally different to just kicking people. Injurys are sometimes an unfortunate by product. Now I have never boxed and you have but I am sure you never threw a punch with just the points in mind?.....you threw it like you meant it. Thats why I liked sport, I personally didnt think about anything else when I played just total focus and commitment on winning the game, match, race or whatever WILF did you play at pro level? WILF 46,585
Holy f**k No !! .......very low standard Saturdays and Sundays, but I played in all divisions and for some fairly good teams ( at our level) during my playing career which was 20 years as an adult. I faced off against teams from all over London and the Home Counties in that time mate and they were from all divisions so I have seen most things and been lucky enough to test myself against some good defenders The scots lad who Gnasher referred to in a previous post played at a much higher level Saturday football than me Edited February 13, 2013 by WILF

bobcullen79 1,495
Footballers are pathetic excuses for anything. I've stopped watching it because of all the play acting and carrying on over nothing. If any of the games played on local parks on a Sunday morning were played under the same conditions as the pro's the games would have to be abandoned either because each team was down to just the goal keepers with the rest being sent off, the players would be dead on their feet because of the 6 hours of injury time and because of the length of the games and amount of stoppages the crowd wouldn't turn up to watch so no money would be generated. Agreed! I cant stand football full stop. I only watch it because my mates want it on.. I think football players should be giving pink cards for their diving and amateur dramatics. Two pink cards (all season) and you have to wear a pink tutu every game for the rest of the season. I reckon that would sort it.
