Smokey 1 56
Has anyone shot one of these or has one in the cabinet, looking for a lightweight gun for rough shooting over the dogs. I was considering going the 20 bore route but these are about the same weight, wonder what they are like recoil wise and do they handle ok, what is your overall impression of this gun ? Cheers in advance Smokey Quote Link to post
SportingShooter 0
Shot a 28" version on many occasions. Very light for an O/U and handles very well. I can't say I notice any difference in recoil on moving targets, especially in winter with thick clothing. See if you can get yourself to a clay ground with a gun shop and try one out Quote Link to post

j2gundogs 0
Hi Smokey, I have an Ultralight which I use over the dogs and am very pleased with it. All things are relative, but handling-wise, I find it very easy to bring up and swing through. When I first got it, it didn't fit me and kicked like a mule! (but then I need a cast like a dog's hind leg!) Since fitting it, the recoil goes in the right direction and is very smooth now, using 32g 6s which I tend to stick to for pigeons, rabbits, pheasants etc. If you want to use it to shoot Canada geese in greater numbers than 1 or 2 a year then forget it, but for walked up game, shot over dogs, for me is the ideal tool. Hope this helps, J2 Quote Link to post

Cheers in advance Smokey Great question, have been looking at the same gun however I was concerned with regards to the recoil if I put any heavy loads through it as well the effect it may have on the shoulder during a good day on the pigeons during the summer when lighter clothes are being used.
