They look great JT,are they both ok with the ferrets now? While I was cleaning mine out the other night,I heard the pup yelping, and seen her retreating backwards(rather quickly)with a poley jill attatched direct to her nose.I had to detatch her from the pup,as she wasn't going to let go in a hurry. She doesn't want to play with them as much now,she has a bit more respect for them though. :clapper:

They are both awful with the ferrets! I dont know if its me being a bit scared to let them run free together :icon_redface: but they both seem intent on eating the ferrets! Molly jumps on them (Tail wagging though) and the ferts try to bite her and Daisy spends nearly all day at the hutch trying to get in! The kitt winds her up by climbing up and down the mesh trying to bite her tongue  When I see other people's photos with their dogs playing with their ferrets I could cry as I cant see that ever happening here  I wouldnt care, I REALLY want them to work together as I have predominantly rabbiting permission.

I'd get them together a bit more (supervised) before they get much older mate if you want to have a relaxed dog/ferret working relationship.

If they havent done too much work wise, and arent too "switched on" yet then you should still be able to break them to ferrets ok if you spend some quality time mixing the pups and ferrets together as Mackay says, under close supervision. I find the best way is to sit holding the ferret in one hand and stroking the dog in the other, then swap around, and any attempts made to get overly friendly with the ferret, tap the pup on the nose or let the ferret give it a wee nip if it shows the inclination.

I have a border dog whos coming up 18 months and a bitch at 6months and I recently got a couple of kits, with the hope I might be able to break the young bitch to them if not the dog, but its proving hard work as they have both killed rats and rabbits and they are showing an unhealthy interest in the ferrets, I dont know if I will ever be able to trust them 100% with them, I will persevere and see if I can get them to the stage where they ignore the ferrets and dont try and go for them, but I think I may have missed the boat and I might be better just concerntrating on breaking the 8 week old pup to them instead with a view to using him as a ferreting terrier when hes older.

Good luck

This is what I want to do. I wanna get a Ferret but my bird is adamant she will not have one about. I'll have to beat her harder for her to give in I think lol (Just a joke of course), I'm working on it though and the more I moan the more ground she gives lol, so we'll see.

Just go and get a few and bugger the consequences!! Thats what I did, of course I was in the dog house for about a week or so and it cost me :whistling: but hey, the whole family love them now and Im really pleased I went for it to be honest. :D
