bunnys 1,228
3 weeks ago my sisters Jack Russell spent 3 days on a drip with a sickness bug. Last week my mates bull cross was really bad with same thing. Wouldn't eat for 5 days. He's pulled through now though. Last night she reused her evening meal. First time in the 8 months I've had her. She eats like a horse. I left it with her 5 minutes then took it off her. I aren't one for leaving food down and letting them graze. Anyways this morning i came down to this... The dark stuff is clearly shit. But what's the big pile? Is that sick or shit? It was also bloody colour but I couldn't be sure it was blood. I'm guessing there is a bug going around? Has anyone else had similar of late? I will starve her today and try her with some cooked chicken tomorrow morning and see how she gets on. Cheers looks like Hge atb bunnys. Gaz gareththeres lots of it about doing the rounds in staffordshire lots of reasons for the illness sometmes one cana see the reason why , starve keep fluids andposs antibiotics in case of bacterial type seen this lots atimes over the yrs some dogs dont suffer any symtons while others kenneled come down with it .atb bunnys. ps hge hymophyla gastroentiritus spelling crap but this is a very possibility atb bunnys. Gaz_1989 9,539
Thanks for info all. Done some research and I'm 99% sure that this is HGE. Yesterday afternoon she was still fine in herself. Bouncing around. I gave her an electrolyte drink and kept taking it off her so she was just having sips every half an hour. At about 8pm I gave her a handful of cooked chicken which she took readily. She was fine all night. No diarreah since the first episode. I gave her another handful of cooked chicken and she went straight out and did 2 lots of bloody diarreah exactly as described with HGE. Should I continue to starve her? She's dropped weight already so I don't want to starve her for too long. Cheers Gaz

Gaz_1989 9,539
She's the other side of it now whatever it was. She's had a handful of chicken twice today and electrolyte drink inbetween. She wouldn't drink it at first but I mixed a teaspoon of lactol powder (puppy milk) in with it and she was happy to drink it then. She's just been out and done a loose but much firmer stool. It was the consistency of thick yoghurt as opposed to water. And no blood. So all good. Thanks for the tips.

Gaz_1989 9,539
Today is day 4 and she seems to be the other side of it. It's been a constant battle, getting fluids in her, spooning slippery elm down her throat, making small meals of chicken and brown rice, getting electrolytes in her etc. She has had 3 small meals today and done a small soft stool but with no blood. She was sick this morning but just yellowy bile. I've had advice off some top people and I'm pleased with myself for getting her right without rushing to the vet - which I've been close to doing a few times. Cheers Gaz
