Open Sights

does anyone still hunt using open sights.thinking about taking the scope off one of mine and using it for around the trees for squirrel and the odd bird.i always find i can get on target quicker with the opens and its easier to follow a quick moving target like squirrel without a scope.i know a few lads who use them for targets just wondering if anyone still hunts with them

dont use any ,but squirrels up trees [or close up] has to be the only time I would think you had an advantage over scope or red dot ect .

I went out saturday night with a shitty open sighted gun as it was too foggy for dogs. In an hour id shot about a dozen birds ..... And i quite enjoyed it. Reminded me of my "airsporter" days ...

yea mate this will be close range got another scoped gun for rabbits or long range theres a small woods where i go pigeons and squirrels on the ground.been playing around with targets and 15-20 yard is all i feel confident with at the minute which is about right for what i need but wouldnt risk any further without scope.gun ill be using is an old hw77

if your eyes are good theyre more than effective...but, close like ratting theyre ideal as theyre low on the barrel.

 

wierach hw80 style with a lollypop were orsom.

Still a great way to get out and shoot. Weihrauch air rifles on open sights are amazingly accurate devices.

Yes i agree, when i started years ago, scopes were for the gamekeepers and the like, theres something basic and very satisfying when you shoot with a good set of iron sights !

i used to love using the open sights on my osprey air rifle years ago,the old eyes arnt up to it now

Think you can see better clearer with a scope on the only disadvantage is close up with a set mag scope but ive never felt like taking it off

i had them on my BSA super sport in the 80's couldn't raise enough cash for a scope so i made do
