baldockbanks courser 598
Why people Keep throwing the word jacker about like its clever and make you look the man i dont know. its sickening when it happens and sad for both owner and dog. Half the dogs jack because they are caused to jack by bad keeping and running, the rest just haven't got the mental strength. My first 2 lurchers I owned hardly killed any hares, but being between 12-16 years old and living in a town surrounded by hares I'd be out coursing all the time. They would run hares till they were a dot on the horizon never giving up. since then I've had dogs that killed 3-3 week in week out, that had all the breeding n style a man could want that chucked the towl in under little pressure. 1 things for sure if they do it once they'll do it again 100% it may be the next run, the next week or the next year but they always do it again, and that should be the end of there coursing life, they may be able to handle rabbits but not hares. baldockbanks courser 598
You don't want a row, we won't be having a row goldfinch. it's just some people constantly keep on about this dog jacking that dog jacked. I had a lamping bitch pull up (jack, skid, jam on etc etc) this year, she went, moved on, hopefully got better stock now. I can't see why people are so keen to go on about dogs jacking like its a badge of houner or to perhaps show people up who would carry on working such dogs (the pet owner) just let them falls go on kidding there selves. Why not say who's dogs didn't make the grade this year? 1 Quote Link to post

moonlighter 1,164
Most of the time, I'd say there not conditioned enough for the amount of work asked of them. I've never had a day time dog jack but, I work then according to their fitness levels. I wouldn't take a dog out in sept and give it 5 runs...but I would in December/January when its ready. 3 Quote Link to post
romany52 313
Most dogs jack because they are run beyond their present fitness level. most folks could train to do a marathon, try running one without training ! believe me ,you'll jack ! just like the dog, you've got no choice. Another reason is some undetectable injury. Don't know whether you've ever noticed, but some "dog men" seem to have far more than their fare share of jackers, while others have hardly any! Draw your own conclusions. 5 Quote Link to post

skycat 6,173
Once went out with what I discovered was a total idiot. Tried to run a nice little black and tan bitch that hadn't been out of the kennel in weeks. She ran hard, tried her best, but blew up after a couple of minutes. She came back to him panting like a steam train and he hit her for jacking: there are plenty of idiots about in this game: far more than those that know what they are doing with a dog. 6 Quote Link to post
bunnys 1,228
One of my dogs won't work for anyone else. It isn't a " I'm so amazing" thing, it is a dog confidence thing - he is confident with me, no one else. He will do 3 strides down the beam, then turn back . None of the others do it, so I think it is me/him not a dog problem. lara mine wont step out a gate without me, and for all the talk on jacking is allways hares i think likes ASsaid the handler can make a huge difference , some seem to be able to field good animals time and time again this aint a fluke . some can get the ultimate from a lesser animal where others struggle with real top prospects , one needs to live breath and have a understanding how each individual ticks atb bunnys.
