pattstaff 157
Is there anyone in the country who ever had full working line deerhounds for proper fox work? Quote Link to post
davey 310
I have been looking for about 3 years now very hard to find right dog Quote Link to post
dogs-n-natives 1,182
Gonna be mating my 1/4 bred to a full bred, but f**k going to someone that dont graft their dogs hard... their breeding off stuff, that isnt tested in the field, may wel be useless, with loads of defects, sod that. How can any working dog man say this is no better/worse than any other lines? I know one thing, and that is that regular work shows up any faults in the dogs, without work and working ancestry, they are non existant to me. (personal opinion) Quote Link to post

dogs-n-natives 1,182
Not really aimed at anyone mate. Just my opinions. I run hill ground 90% of the time, so deerhoundy types are what do best. I only require working ability, nothing else. 1 Quote Link to post

To be fair your comment ' I know one thing, and that is that regular work shows up any faults in the dogs, without work and working ancestry' i think is spot on, and that was my point really the dh x produced by Dave Platt and the other ones that churn out a fair few out. They cannot be getting sufficient work when they are one of maybe 10-15 dogs in one mans kennel. It is a shame that not more people use them as the working pool of animals to use would increase and not leave people having to rely on the people mass producing. That said there may be loads of lines out there its just that I havnt heard of them! or they just dont get mentioned on places like this 2 Quote Link to post
dogs-n-natives 1,182
I understand the trouble with finding the right stock, but there are good deerhounds out there- bred for work. Took me some serious searching aswell, but now got a choise of a handful of useful animals. Fearless and tough as the hills, is what a deerhound should be. 3 Quote Link to post
the big chief 3,099
I have one out of dave platts raven, I doubt Dave platts strain are any better than any of the other breeders stuff out there. Thing with deer X is the time to mature, if your patient enough though and unless the individual dog you got was a dud I cant see them having any problem on most stuff if the ban was ever repealed the one I have is out of raven and willow .I agree with you I doubt daves stuff is as good or as bad as any other breeders Yeah that Raven been around abit lol, The dam to mine was a grey, I take it you got yours direct from Dave then?.
