Popular Post Millet 4,497
Keepa and Rudies 4th birthday bash, was a party with friends, although at least 97 of them wished they had not been invited! The sun was shining and for once no wind, rain or snow, a perfect day. Not many humans this time, Butler with little Pepper pig, Neil with Rosie and Olive, Millet with Lil, young Adam out for his 1st taste of ratting, and of course my mob and i. An update of the party goers, some oldies and some new. After a week of should he, should'nt he Millet decided to take Loopy Lil along for her first time ratting for some socialising. Of course being a youngster, there was nothing more important then playing with the other pup. Whats this? Rats are definitely not something she has a passion for at the mo, god help them when she does!. But she did have a go several times.... Some things never change, Boo is an old hand now at going ratting, yes he goes, but doesnt really seem to get the idea the day is about killing as many rats as possible. Guess i am just going to have to face it, the sex pest is definitely a lover not a fighter. A new girls 1st trip ratting = "Hello pretty lady" Then he spent most of the rest of the day, taking any opportunity he could... Any colour, any coat, any age, he's not a fussy lad Coursing 'ANYTHING' is much better fun than getting bitten. Although 2 possibly 3 times he did make the effort. Fair enough this one was already dead, but at least he tried! Terra is an old hand at this now, 10yrs old this year. And to be honest you just never really notice she is there, or what she does, till i check the photos. Just plods on doing the job. This is Rosies the Borders 2nd season, last season she was just a youngster learning the ropes. This season, just like Terra, you could literally forget about her and she just got on with the job. That's a big rat Rosie. Little Pepper Pig, was just a puppy last year and is still cuteness personified now She gets in there with everyone else, but loves her rats so much, she wants to keep each and eveyone of them lol. Just say "Oooo Pepper what have you got" and she waddles over tail wagging so happy and proud........till she gets 3inch's away from your fingers then turns around again, NO-ONE is having her rat. This was a lucky sequence of shots, i was just photographing the perfectly spaced rat runs when a rat generously ran into the shot, closely followed by Pepper. Pepper. Birthday boy Rudie, was on fire today. The majority of the sets were in thick cover, and the majority of the rats bolted, without his height, eyesight and exocet homing in ability we would have only gotten half the number we did... He has also learned, no messing about shaking, just grab, crunch and drop. Perfect ratting technique! The new baby of the group, Olive. I just love watching how the youngsters interact and enjoy the day. She was exactly the same as every other pup has been. I presume the big boys and girls in hunt/kill mode are a bit daunting for pups, so they tend to spend more time either playing or hunting up alone around the periphery, always there but rarely in the middle of it. This can have it's advantages, like Olives very first caught rat. She tracked down a sneaky bolter, caught and killed it all by herself... To the delight of her proud Dad She even assisted her Dad in realising he is not yet too old to still do the splits Birthday girl Keepa was her usual bull in a china shop self. 'The tank' on her half time break whilst we stopped for sarnies Then end of shift once we got home. I know some people say, coat does not make much difference to a terrier. To those people i say "Give your head a shake"! EOD shot, we could account for (Few unaccounted lost in cover) 97 BIG healthy rats, plus about 30 babies, not in shot. It would not have mattered of we had spent all day there and only got 5 rats. It was a perfect day, the chat, laughs and company are 2nd to none without exeption, that coupled with glorious weather. more shots.. Loads of bolters, meant not too much digging... I AM the luckiest woman on the planet! Thank you.x. 38 Quote Link to post
