Dogs Just Lost His Nail

Recommended Posts

Seen dogs loose nails plenty times wouldn't worry too much about it , yes they bleed a bit and the dog limps about a bit just keep it clean and it will be fine it will grow back but it takes quite a few weeks

Sometimes!!

My bitch lost a nail @ 18months and it never grew back, just a small stump.

if the nail is off ,keep it clean and let it heal ,you take dog out and it will get infected .

Not true.

A saline soak and letting dog lick wound will deal with any infection - unless the dog is otherwise unwell and it's immune system is compromised,

 .....ok, I just made it up......your last part is bit of a get out of jail card for saying a saline soak and dog licking wound will deal with any infection ,as if the dogs lamping fit/ worked hard, theres a very fine line with immune system and it being compromised .dont you think?

Not at all. You said the dog would get infected if it was taken out. I said not, is all.

ive had a few dogs lose nails and you take them back out lamping to soon they will get infected belive me

My dog pulled her toe nail out on her front foot last year, i took her to the vets they said just salt and water and plenty of rest, don't wrap it up but put a cone on the dog so she doesn't lick it, because it will get infected. It's a myth that a dogs saliva is good for wounds, the dogs saliva is actually abrasive so it causes a rash on the skin.
