Ka-bar, great knives. Well strong and have a good name. They make military spec knives.

I have a tactical Bob Dozier folder, a USMC and a Kabar Bowie. All would serve your purpose, although the folder only has a 4" blade.

 

They are I think high carbon steel, apart from the folder which I think is AUS8.

 

For your usage you must really learn how to sharpen blades.

 

I purchased them all second hand from other forums.

imo I wouldn't want a 5.25" blade, all my knives are 3-4" and I have never had a situation where a bigger blade would make anything any easier but that's just me. That does look a decent enough knife.

I have a 4 inch blade on my knife bit its a bit short on the goats when I need to neck them,My sharpening skills are woefull,even after watching videos,buying a watersone I still cant get it sharp sharp,i try the sliceing paper test...........never works,lol.cleanspade are they ka bar oldtimers?

 

ratreeper Ive found when dealing with some of the billys the blade is just a tad short and trying to cut through the beard/long hair a stronger wider blade would help.I have a jes knife that is serving me well too,thinking of trying a longer blade as I think it would be of benefit..
