Merman 0
Hi, My 2 year old Golden Retriever is still laid up at home after 3 weeks and more than £600 in vet bills. All thanks to grass seed in his paws. To avoid this problem in the future, apart from keeping his paw fur trimmed and checking his paws frequently, is it worth buying dog-boots? I'll admit that I didn't do this often enough before this problem, or it might have been averted. Another lesson learned the hard way. He beats during the game season over fairly flinty ground, accompanies me when I go rough shooting and also goes for long (10+ mile) walks. Do you think that boots would be the answer, or should regular checks and trimming be enough? If you do think that boots are the way forward, could you recommend any particular type? Or would I be wasting my time and money? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Merman
Cupid Stunt 18
You shouldn't need to buy boots, it doesn't take much to keep the hair trim or take long to check the dogs feet over at the end of the day. Edited July 18, 2007 by Cupid Stunt
Guest MOLLY
Waste of money imo. Last year 2 of my dogs had to have vets treatment due to grass seeds, one had one stuck in her throat another developed an abscess due to one getting under the skin in his leg. If you tried to prevent every injury from happening then the dogs would be either completely wrapped in armour or would never leave the house. I think its just one of those things you have to accept may happen. MOLL.
redmoor 0
Muttluks are the best boots for protection, they are what the Huskie people use for their dogs racing on hard ground when there is no snow.
