Right guys, i see that quite a few are using these scopes and i just want to know how good they really are? At the moment my mind is between one of these or a nikon pro staff.

From an HFT shooting point of view I think they are very good indeed. I came away from an MTC Viper purely down to the SCB reticle. I went for a Panorama 3-12 x 40 with a MAP6A ret and have never looked back. I have another one sitting at the Post Office depot waiting for me to collect it in the morning.

 

Reading one of the Airgun mags last month I was intrigued by a review of the Hawke Nite-Eye digital and the claim was that this was a great scope for HFT; I am here to tell you that after using Panorama's it falls well short. In fact it's like looking down a drinking straw. Never thought about it before but the view through the Panorama is a good 20% greater that of my other 40mm scopes. As for clarity I have picked a peach in the one I have. Hearing that glass can be a bit hit & miss I hope my new one is as good as my old one. Blue ret comes into it's own when in the woods, and mine (AO) is one of the few Hawke's that correlate exactly with the distance of the target.

i love my panoramas i have a 4-12X 50 & 40 both AO IR HALFMIL RET and there great scopes. havent tried the one you mentioned.. but the panorama is great for use on airguns.

Very nice optics and a very nice scope as a whole.

 

The half mildot system is very useful and the AO focuses to a pin sharp image.

 

From 4 to 12 mag i get no white out as seen on some other scopes in its price range.

 

I own a 4 - 12 x 40 mm AO IR and a 4 - 12 x 50 mm AO IR model.

 

The IR can be adjusted from a very low lit light to a higher and brighter light which works well in the woods when shooting against a dark back drop or when your shooting corvids and the black reticule is hidden by the corvids black feathers. I don't use the IR in normal day time situations and find the black half mildot reticule ample for my needs in the off position.

 

I actually now prefer the 4 - 12 x 40 AO IR model as I find it produces a just as good image as the bigger 50 mm model which is slightly more expensive.

 

Out of all the Hawke scope that i have used the Panorama EV as got to be the second best model only being bettered by the more expensive Sidewinder series.

For field use I'd go for the Nikon every time but then I prefer a basic scope and they're much better built. For adjustability and features the Hawke's got it beat though. Each to their own.

scott you have both the 40mm and the 50mm which do you find better?

I had panorama, very clear great field of view. But the ao was way out, I found the blue ret "for daytime " they say was totally crap. Couldn't see no illumination. Better at night. I now have a mtc lite. Slightly clearer, feels abit better built an the ao is more precise. But if I were to get another Hawke at that price, it would definitely be that scope again..

there both pretty much the same in a side to side comparison.

 

i have the smaller 40mm on my hw95k because its better suited to the small slim light rifle, than the bigger 50mm scope, which is on my bigger chunkier hw97kt.

 

i have probably used the 40mm one more, and its still amazing, even for lamping on 10x mag you can still get a perfect sight picture with the 40mm scope. and i like the blue ao for lamping and either black or red for daytime.

 

also no whiteing out from either model as si said.

 

overall i would highly reccomend them for a nice great quality scope at the right sort of price you get your moneys worth.

thanks, i have the 50mm ao ir on my 97k but the ret on the 40mm is finer. i just wondered if it made much difference to accuracy.
