Pigeon Shooting And Sporting Rights Where Do You Stand?

Recommended Posts

Ive just got a great permission but found out today by some farm workers that the farmer only rents all the land from the estate and they dont have sporting rights, so does that cover pigeon control under the general licence?

Anyone else know if the land you shoot on is covered for sporting rights as I dont want doing for armed tresspass!

The owner is a large bordering estate, but I assumed by giving me written permission the farmer who rents this farmland from the estate had the sporting rights included in their agreement.

But thats not the case as I found out today from a neighboring farmer planting some hedgerows, that the farm is rented and has been for many years but has a syndicate shoot on it also.

I dont know how it works but someone must have the sporting rights to be running a shoot and the pens have been there on the land for years as Ive seen them today and they were knackered.

I thinkthe landowner said they leased out the sporting rights to the sydicate so does that mean they can give me permission also to shoot vermin? god knows all I know is Im gutted as I thought this was the answer to my permission dreams,

The keeper is unobtainable, maybe I should go back up to the farm and ask if they are aware that the gamekeeper could have more rights legally than them if he has the sporting rights, but it could upset them and they could say forget it then, at present I have written permission so do I carry one shooting and wait for the keeper to approach me? rather than me approaching him as what he doesnt know wont hurt him Ive actually shot a couple of squirrels with the airgun today feeding under his corn bins, looks like the rats have been doing the same as there were holes under every feeder.

if the owner of the rented farm has leased the sporting rights to the syndicate then the tennant farmer is still responsible for pest control on the property unless the syndicate lease states otherwise, If you can get hold of the keeper of shoot captain have a word and sort it out between yourselves as this will save any hasstle in the long term.

The Farmer may have no right to give out permission for anything other than Rabbits.

On the estate that I am keeper of the farms were all sold off years ago but the shooting rights were kept, we now own the shooting rights outright and the farmers can only control Rabbits on their land.

If i ever caught anyone wandering around my feeders with any gun their would be serious consequenses!

Go and see the keeper and see what he says.

Well that sounds like my scenario, so Im trying to go down the proper legal root thats why I phoned this morning to talk things over with the land owner and hopefully get a formal meeting with the keeper who is now in his seventies and hasnt got the time or energy for pest control I can only help him providing he gives me a chance but this sounds remote as he sounds a bit grumpy.

Im from a keepering family so I know exactly what your talking about I have been there.

Paulus as a MOD I repect you and find alot of your posts both amusing and correct, but under our sporting rights we have full shooting rights, as I said before all the farmers can shoot legally is Rabbits (I would be happy to farward a copy of said rights to you as a MOD (if you need confirmation))

Depends on the conditions the shooting has been let under!

i not saying your lease doesnt cover pigeons as a lease is written to suite both parties and interests full shooting rights covers all shooting including rabbits, unless stated otherwise on the lease, however if the lease was just to say sporting rights then the shooting of pigeons wouldnt automatically be included as there a pest speciels thats covered under the general liecense.

on my permisions theres a point were 3 different permisions meet, one permision i have the sole shooting rights, another i have the pest control rights including munjac and the last one i i have pest conrtrol excluding muntjac so all rights and rules are as per the lease/permision and can be different to suit an individual/syndicates requirements.
