Pigeon, Safe To Eat?

Ok, so I might be winning the award for the most retarded post here, but my question is.
Can I cook and eat the pigeons i've shot?
I live in a semi rural area (There's a few golf courses near by and some farms)
But Manchester city center is only a 15 minute drive from where I shoot.
I've been looking for answers all over the internet and keep getting mixed replies.
Some are saying they carry a shit load of diseases (including chlamydia) and i don't fancy taking the chance eating one and then having to explain to my Mrs why my dicks is constantly itching.
So, anyone got some insight for me?

ALL birds

make my dick itchy :icon_redface:

well nearly all :hmm:

!:laugh: Mike92, you dont say what parts or if you are thinking about all the body of the pigeon you want to eat. my mate only eats the breasts of the pigeon he slits the breast cavity on birds we shoot and squeezes the breasts out, the rest we leave in the fields for the few Buzzards that seem to know when theres going to be a easy meal about.. as said by others dont try to eat ferrals, theres not enough meat on them anyway.

Here is a interesting read:

It basically states that a dog and cat carries more diseases than a feral pigeon and that the myth all comes down to pest control companies being greedy for money as pest control and pigeons are big business.

I know that their pooh over time can corrode stone and brick work, and they are suppose to carry a parasite in their pooh which is nasty, but who knows what the real truth is hey?

I dont think that i would still like to eat one though.

Country ferals are good to eat. You can always examen eyes lungs and the liver of the beast, it says a lot about the health of the bird. When you open the crops of ferals at wintertime, you can also have a view at their feeding habits.
