Kevj 433
I started the thread for some info,as usual the threads are jacked by tossers with nothin better to do than chat s**t on here.Any terrier i get would only be bred from if it proved itself doin the job i want and i needed more dogs in,not everyone knows someone with a good workin strain border so consequently if you want one you do your research and hopefully find what you are looking for or someone tries to help you out by puttin you on to pups off good workers as is the case here.So basically what i am trying to say is if you have nothing constructive to say please don't bother saying anything, cheers Quote Link to post
CorkyJohn 808
Why would someone 'help' by putting a complete stranger onto a litter of pups? Money mate.....be very wary of what your buying, I was told of a couple of working border dogs that were doing a job being bred from. To what bitches I dont know but I seen both these dogs fail one day & luckily we had a dog as backup to get the job done. I spoke to the owner of one of these dogs at a later date & he was unaware his dog had walked, he was adamant it was no failure & had breen bred from numerous times as a worker. I know these lads bought papers from pet owners who had no intention to breed just so they could produce as many litters as possible for money. This is why I wouldn't buy a border in & especially not from durham 2 Quote Link to post

This is why I wouldn't buy a border in & especially not from durham ive never seen a working border working myself john-though ive seen a good few crossbred ones.A friend of mine got a border/lakeland there a few weeks ago off a fella near mallow-a right good bitch she is-pure handy sized -would fit anywhere.Speaking of pup prices-the same fella is looking for less than that for a dog with more than a hundred digs behind him. 1 Quote Link to post
Kevj 433
Fair point corky John, the pup I have just put a deposit on has parents who look like they do the job,if the pup doesn't work out the same will happen as if it was gifted to me it will be pts,I just fancied a change from the blacks.I enquired about another litter whereby the fella said I could gladly come and see the sire work and the litter sister to the bitch which is fair enough but he wanted £600 a pup and I thought that was a bit too much,I would at least want it to be able to do the backfilling as well for that price.cheers Kev 1 Quote Link to post

DOGGINLAD 538
selling pups????????????? should be giving them away to all your mates for nothing zero nowt zilch completely FREEEEE............is that not the rules on here?? tut tut no its not the rules on here but its a very good way of getting a good set of dogs and breeding around you/// and why not give your mates them free i wouldnt dream of selling a dog to a mate... and the point we was getting at is the working border is nearly rare so why would any one put high prices on them if they wanted to help the breed?? I just dont get it, half the people who charge high prices are no better than the KC lot!!!! Quote Link to post
CorkyJohn 808
Most have jobs to earn their living, if you have to subsidise that income by breeding from workers/non workers parading as workers, thats peddling IMO. Folk justifying selling surplus pups to cover costs shouldnt have bred the the things in the first place if they cant afford it. Each to their own but borders especially have been exploited for a long time, its the lads who do gift their pups who will do more for the breed than those who sell them to anyone 1 Quote Link to post

But I will just give the pups to my pals, a go to work for a living and not peddle pups its only the 2nd litter I have ever had in 15 yrs of been in the dog game. Quote Link to post

spindolero 1,111
selling pups????????????? should be giving them away to all your mates for nothing zero nowt zilch completely FREEEEE............is that not the rules on here?? tut tut i'm not against selling pups, but it costs the same to rear a litter of russells as it does to rear a litter of KC borders, so not sure where the £200+ difference in price comes from. my guess is that people will sell for what they think people are willing to pay, so it does boil down to the coin, i suppose everyone has been guilty of greed in their time though, there are worse sins, people shouldn't beat themselves up about it, although its nice to give and receive pups FOC between like minded people 2 Quote Link to post
