Thanks lads well I am under no illusion it will take time, and he will now have the next few months completely off with the correct rehab. It's ice packs four times a day for a few more days. No jumping or running just a brief lead walk to let him empty himself and lots of rest.

 

It's hanging down a bit and the colours are coming out now but I don't think it's as bad as it could have been. But I will get the greyhound vet check him out tomorrow.

From my experience big dogs get injuries worse when they happen just due to the extra momentum and body weight but its all relative. His weight is between 23-24kg in new money, so around 50lb plus in old money. I am sure it's down to a combination of lack of fitness and bad luck if I am honest after the previous lay off he has just come back from.

Nothing to do with fitness so rule that one out Sirus.. ..although it's 9 times more likely to happen with a unfit dog..the dog's i have seen drop muscle's have been semi fit or fit as fook..i put it down to the dog's cramping up while in full flight after they have prior cooled down from a previous long run..anyone's guess really..but i am 99% confident that your pooch will run ok once it's healed up..

It may have a big daft ball of muscle near it's ball's/pasta shell.. but it will still run good..

Cheers Mate, Things are looking up after seeing the vet

She injected some weld in two places on the muscle and said its not the worst tear in the world and we will inject some more welds in again in a few weeks, I managed to put my finger into the hole so its about 3-4cm hole I suppose. Its just alot of rehab over the next 2-3 months. He had a complete look at him and other than his feet are a bit like paddles these days from all the grafts he's in good shape

Damn shame that Sirius... It's a good dogman that knows that slow walk back well and that sickening feeling in your gut that goes with it, he also knows when to quit and how to apply the right short term treatment before going to see a specialist... I only hope its a good outcome for you and your old dog...

dont i know that too well........happen the other night with me old bitch..........lump in the throat ......

couple seasons ago me bitch pulled / ripped muscle and it took a year to get her back right................never seen a vet / specialist ...............i thought she would never run properly again....... and the hardest thing is knowing when to let her off the lead because all they want to do is run ,...............a couple of times i thought she was at a stage of total repair...............but then she would start doing the little step thing in between strides so i was set back again..............

after total long rest and a build of road work she was back to normal.................it was a long time but worth it...........and the other night i shite meself as i thought she had done the same injury but thankfully shes ok now.........sirius good luck with the injury..........
