Best Tuners For Spring Rifles?

Recommended Posts

Mallestracht Germany is where Weihrauch's HQ and factory are Mick. Andy. They make every part and, as far as I know, final assembly there. It's there where the rot must lie.

Hull Cartridge stockhold and distribute here.

Assembled by a local toddler group for the last ten or so years!! lol :D

Just kidding, it's primary school really :whistling::D

That's what I was lead to believe Simon. But nowadays a lot of products are outsourced elsewhere for either production or assembly, at the end of the day it's a buyers market. For both manufacturer and consumer.

Forged in India, roughly assembled in turkey, spit and polished in Poland. Stamped made in Germany.

A lot of medical supplies go down this route. High end gear too and again made in Germany!!?

I hope it isn't the case and more of a lazy fecker on the QC at HW.

Ronseal. It does exactly what it says on the tin.

It's just no fecker knows where it's made. Lol

It probably is that very case! I think that makes a lot of sense Mick as to the situation Weihrauch find themselves in. They may now be getting components parts made elsewhere at cheaper rates than they can make themselves, But that brings standards of quality into question in the crossover and final assembly. I'm hearing some really nasty reports of steel swarf and dust left in some guns.

At a shade under £500 for a new HW97KT that is taking the piss to find such gash crap inside.

On a 97 with a dodgy spring would a straight swap for a vmach spring be worth doing or do you need the full kit? I've got one with a proper twang to it its still accurate and decent power but not really got the cash for a full kit at the mo.

Thanks, Wurz and Moxy.

One thing I will say is I'm not an 'air rifle tuner', just a bloke who looks after a few friends rifles. I get a fair few PMs from folks who I have to let down. It can be a mine field and I really don't want to get involved business wise. I'm just happy to keep my own and my mate's guns fit and well for the price of a pint as and when we meet up :D

I'm the same as Andy.....

Done a few to date and they turned out ok!

I must admit to being a HW fan. But in my latest quest to create a classic custom springer along the lines of some of the old venom stuff from the 'late '80's early '90's I looked at the HW 97 and 77. None of the new models seemed to have the quality of build that I always held high regard for. I know that I maybe intending to rip its guts out at some point, but such rough edges should not exsist in what was once such a quality product It is a shame that they seem to be chasing the £'s whilst forgetting the standards that they made their name upon. Unless I can find a sleeper of a HW77 a prosport it will have to be

Don't think it would do it any harm to try a fit with it and see what you get gnipper. Tuning kits should have parts normally profiled to the spring's inner surfaces/diameter. If everything else is alright and fits snug inside the spring, the spring was cut to UK 12ft/lb limit and it's got a light grease, you should be fine I would have thought.

One you'll only know after trying it out gnipper mate.. At least you can remove it if this is not a happy fit

Hi

Have emailed weihrauch with the findings you have made, you never know they might invite you to the factory and give you a new gun.

Blimey. Thank you Villaman. I won't hold my breath but it would be really nice if they did.

It is a case of modern times that once-reliable makers who are like trusted household names, have let good old fashioned high standards slip for cheaper, cost-cut rubbish. That is the start of the slope downwards towards insolvency! I'll tell them at Weihrauch if they invite me over.

Thanks Villaman once again.

Yeah the psycho mutts mine mate :)

I had a complete nightmare with a 35 and a vmach kit a couple of years back, it just wouldn't get to the right power and it ended up staying at about 9.5, it was that or over.

I did like the dead firing without the twang though, the vmach spring should achieve similar in my 97 I'd imagine but without changing the seal and everything else? Would it take long to bed in if it was just the spring swapped?

Cheers, gnipper

Hi Simon

I am only saying that because my aunt had a jag and the engine blow up at 80,000 miles, she went back to the garage they said it cant be done under guarantee and she would have to pay for a new engine . So my aunt sent a letter to Jaguar to the top man, i think it was a woman at the and she said out of good will you don't have to pay a penny.

It might be worth having a go.
