NEWKID 27,143
There was nothing much planned this weekend, we've had a good few weeks lately and had a few out of the hedges, but this weekend I was on my own so it would be a couple of walks with the dogs and a few ferts/nets on the smaller burys....... a good old fashioned mooch Saturday morning was cracking lovely sunshine and it was good to be out, I headed for an old oak tree right in the middle of stubble field, it normally holds a couple and sure enough the terrier soon marked. a few nets on 2 ferrets in and the thumping began, it took a while to shift but after a fair while of the dogs trembling with anticipation one was out and pinned by Bella......... and that was that, I've bolted up to 5 out of the tree in the past but only the 1 was home today.. he was soaking too, and ome of the holes were still full of water. I picked up and walked to the top bank which is broken into small burys, after a little messing Bella marked a set of about 10 holes under a holly bush, I threw a few nets on and left a few for any bolters for the dogs. Put the hob ferret in and, watched 2 rabbits bolt one after the other, from the same hole....... in the middle of the field behind us .... I know it's there now at least.. and that was that 1 but a nicemornings walk and fresh food for the ferrets The old oak Sunday..... Just coming around ( a bit lazy it was about 8am) and my little girl is sat up in my bed, wide awake...... "i'm going to give the dogs a run, and take the ferrets" I say......... " do you want to come" ..... what have I just said I think... "Yes" she replies.... and thats set I'm tking my 5 year old daughter ferreting..... She loved it, she loves the animals more than ay of the kids really, and always wants to get involved... she obviously talked too much and was too loud and asked loads of questions.... but I really enjoyed having her with me..... We ran a long net around an old fallen tree that has a fair few holes under it, a couple of purse nets on and we put 3 ferrets in ( this was Isla's job ), there was obviously rabbits home but they didn't want to bolt it took a good 20 mins before the first hit the long net, and then another 10mins or so before the terrier grabbed one from the hole mouth..... I had a feeling there was more in but I could see a difficult dig on the cards so picked up....... coward The dogs ran on and marked a set on the edge of the woods about 10 holes or so,"we'll do this one and finish" I told Isla, nets on ferret in rabbit out nice and quick, job done..... really enjoyed the morning, and for a 5 year old Isla was dead keen...... not big numbers this weekend but a bit of fun none the less 6 Quote Link to post

NEWKID 27,143
Cheers lads Tomo: That tree always holds mate, I'm glad it made you feel a little nostalgic.... Unfortunately a lot of the fields and hedgerows we done as kids has been ripped up and replaced with a bloody great tescos, roads etc... Cheers Kev Quote Link to post
