Best Dead Bait For Pike?

Just abit of info for you about Lampreys, i used to fish the river Wharfe for Barbel at Boston Spa/Newton Kyme area and have seen Lampreys in the 10s of 1000s die when they get to the weir at Boston Spa, the river bed was coverd from bank to bank, if i wanted to fill a freezer with pike bait thats were i,d go, atb, buster.

But only at one week of the year..... :thumbs::victory: :victory:

You could well be right there Darcy, i cant remember the exact time of year as we used to fish for Barbel during the trout season before the coarse season started but also had the odd trip up there during the summer too, i presume they spend there life at sea and only enter fresh water to breed then die, i,v never seen anything like it in any other river, funny looking things too, atb, buster.

Depends on the water, wether its been hammered or not. On pressured waters I find more exotic baits like blueys, lamprey, smelt, have the edge. On one water in particular good old Mackay out fishes just about every bait going. I do a lot of sea, coarse and game fishing so if been known to use dead baits such as Pollock, whiting, horse mackerel, trout, grayling, even flounders ha! You name it if used it as pike baits and just about everything works especially 1lb half fish jacks for the big mammas! I seem to remember I got nowt on the flatty, tough as old boots he he :-)
