It is surprising, gonna do more of it I am, its been tidy the kids have loved it too. They grew some green beans in a pot and just had our first harvest of it.

terryd 8,467
Blackcurrants are my favorite fruit love a nice tart. I read onions like a lose soil to expand is that not right John ?
darbo 4,776
You are right terry but what i mean is the onions are in raised beds and the soil was too loose quite a few toppled over and did not set/grow right a bit of firming in before planting would have been better in this case. i have made mistakes for the last 25 years but its the only way you learn.Next year will see a better crop. The best onions i have seen have been grown fron seed but i have never bothered next season i will give them a go. :thumbs:Black currants are the easiest things to grow had them years ben connan the variety and are simple to propagate for new bushes. :thumbs:What i mean by firming in i walk and tread in the top layer of the soil then lightly rake over this year i think i just raked over and planted it was too soft if this makes sense.i have had far better results in previous years firming the top layer over. Mr Wilkes 3,010
I emptied out my first bag of early potatoes and it was really disappointing there was hardly a boiling did you feed them ?. I put one "kestral" on a pot with no feed, just kept topping it up with compost and got hardly any. but on the other pots i topped up with pelleted manure and compost plus watered with comfrey and they did very well. Aye i gave them a good lot of slow release fertilizer when i planted them and gave more as i topped the bags up , the only thing i didnt do was put water retaining crystles in the bags which i have done in other years , but theres another 8 variety's of earlies so maybe it will get better
