terryd 8,396
We are getting frosts but nothing major spuds are in but I doubt they are moving yet and well earthed up anyway. The weather here is like a proper spring so far the odd wet day and and a few sunny frosty days. Nothing extreme either way so fingers crossed the old switch will flick in couple of weeks and we will start spring for sure.
twobob 1,497
genuine question why do you start your onions off in trays ? i got told that its to get the roots going because if you put them straight in the ground they pop themselves back out to the top of the soil and some think its birds pulling them out, so i'm sticking with the trays and they pop up in them, at least i can sort them out when they go in the ground cheers

Next year I will try some like yours. Been trying to do the maths now adays and figure how much I actually want of what. Planted 50 reds and red whites yesterday plus the 70-90 that I over wintered should do I guess. I think on average we use at least 2 a week. That gravel really tops off your paths a treat you will be getting the tidiest plot award this year for sure

terryd 8,396
Planted some more peas todaybut the high light was the asparagus showing I can't take any credit though as I inherited it but looking forward to eating it only downer was some kids tipped two of my 45 gallon drums of water over so the purple sprouting got an gallon watering pretty much like any other day this winter Edited March 29, 2014 by terryd
terryd 8,396
The single row of maris bard I planted on the 8th were showing them selves today Quite surprised I expected them to have been pretty dormant. Earthed them up any way in case
Tiercel 6,986
Looked today and the first of the carrots are starting to show, there are also a few leeks showing their heads. As a side note the wife's friend in Newfoundland told her they had 40cm of snow last night with another 50 or 60 to come today and tomorrow . And we moan about the weather. terryd 8,396
Yep all ways moaning about the weather. I have to say as a kid I hated the summer and prefered nice cold winters but as I get older I do enjoy the nice warmth of the sun
terryd 8,396
Purple sprouting is still producing well getting a nice bag full every two days. Pulled the swedes today and popped in the shed before they go to seed. Couple of spring cabbages went to seed instead of hearting up so they are in the fridge for greens. To wet to do any thing else at the moment
