LaraCroft 863
Greens, chard, onions and garlic all doing well, as are the toms. Something is having a go at my cucumbers though, although I am not sure what - first time I have grown them, and they seemed to do really well until the last 2 days, when I noticed the cucumbers had some little brown lines on them. Not seen any bugs/slugs, but I assume I am missing something.

LaraCroft 863
Looks like it TC - have got 3 ok for eating, and ditched 2, and there are another 7 on the stalks, so have treated and will see what happens. Repeated the diesel this evening, and had one of the hens in the tunnel for a few hours for bug removing. My lovely neighbour is helping (just as well, I know nothing ) so hopefully between us we can get some nice stuff. He no longer wants to work his own ground, but loves to potter around in the polytunnel and is full of invaluable help, ideas and tips. The chard looks lovely already, as does the garlic and onions. He gets 2 dozen eggs a week, and doesn't laugh too loudly at my daft questions !

shepp 2,285
I heard a good tip yesterday. If you water from a barrel, get a 4 or 6 pint milk bottle, make some small holes in it and fill it with comfrey, then drop it into your watering barrel. It works as a kind of tea bag. You can also add seaweed liquid to the barrel for even more nutrients.

forest of dean redneck 11,669
Looks good that,I'm getting mine straight ,it just needs stuff on it,been funny with seed germination I bought this swanky compost and really only half what I've sown has germinated, the compost looks dry but when you water it it seems saturated right away, only thing I've had success with is runner beans. Seeds are either this years of last years bought and from real seed company so not F1 or gm etc
LaraCroft 863
Looking great Terry - and whatdog and vfr are looking far more organised than me - very nice. I think the slugs are loosing the battle in the PT - I take a metal BBQ skewer in last thing at night, fill it up, and hang it up on the bird table for the birds in the morning. The diesel around the edges is stopping new ones getting in, and the removal each night is reducing numbers. Cider traps inside ( the chickens love drunk slugs...) and removal morning and evening seems to be getting on top of the issue. Chard and spinach are coming along well, with various herbs. The cucumbers are recovering, although I am not sure I will bother with them again next year - they were nice, but a lot of effort. The outside plot is doing well, spuds, beans, onions, carrots and cabbage mainly, although stopping the horse leaning over the fence to chew the tops has been a challenge. My first year on my own land - loving it !

As the onions in the last photo look as if they are grown from seed. Have a look at white tip caused by bad drainage, if you look at your mates bed he has it raised there-by giving him better drainage. TC
