LaraCroft 863
jok - please excuse the ignorance, most ( ok, well 95% ! ) of this is new to me, is the diesel wiped outside the tunnel, or inside, or both ? I go around the tunnel at last thing ( about 10pm when I take the dog out ) to check for bugs and slugs, and collect them in a pot for the chickens, and do the same first thing, about 0500. I have tried to keep a bare patch of earth on the 4 sides of the tunnel, I can treat that area with whatever is likely to help - it is already gravel but they seem to have 4x4 capability and zoom straight over it
forest of dean redneck 11,692
Supposed to be bad year for flies an slugs due to mild winter.
LaraCroft 863
They are certainly bad this year FODR - never seen them in such numbers before
Treehands. 1,379
Try lengths of copper pipe, I always have a copper collar around the hostas ....no slug damage.... Failing that , try road salt in an old gutter to surround the bed.

jok 3,317
Lara. A diesel wipe round the perimeter. That's it. The buggers do not like it. Mind you, anything on the plot won't leave.
jok 3,317
Copper pipe? Not round here. It'd be weighed in within minutes

terryd 8,552
Things queuing up at home so planted out some cabbage and sprout both club root resistant varieties the ground was still sodden after a monster shower we had friday afternoon strawberries flowering. Once they have fruited I might dig the lot up and get that grass out of there spuds up and away shame the frosts nipped them and knocked them back onions and some spinach that half the row seems to have gone. Slugs or birds broadbeans been weviled the netting can come off next time rows of parsnip interlaced with radish peas rhubarb happy and doing well

Maybe it will work for them as well as slugs, and I will have a quiet one. Fingers crossed !

forest of dean redneck 11,692
That's my allotment taken today,I need to fix my gate/dividing fence and buy some garden gloves so I can remove the stinging nettles around fence line and on the bit by the weed bins. I just put in 16 czar runner beans and about 13 broad beans, the potatoes are feral ones ,I thought I had removed them all last year,so left them where they are, lazy I know, the barnevelders in back garden are laying well, though there's always a dark coloured one trying to go broody,I suspect the same one, I'm hoping to rebuild their run ,making it longer to give them more space.
