jok 3,260
Ant. You can sow or plant just about anything during the next week or so. I'd get some spuds in, rows about 24" apart and potatoes about 20" apart. (Main crop varieties). Short row of peas sown thickly, do a pyramid of canes and put in some runner bean plants, lettuce, radish and of course a few cabbage and cauliflower. That should get you going nicely. Keep on top of the weeds and watch out for the wood pigeon cause they'll take your cabbages. Have fun son. Still hoping to see you later in the year. Jok.

ryaldinhio 4,587
Might be a stupid question terry but what are the bottles on canes for? support the netting and avoid poking me eyes out Makes perfect sense!
ryaldinhio 4,587
Had first radish from mine this evening when I went to lock gates. Lovely taste not much bite, bit young yet. I have been working so much recently I feel Ive missed mi chance for sowing every couple weeks to get a stream of crop. Guna end up with one lump of allsorts then nothing. Guna do a few more bits but start prepping for next year.
Nik_B 3,790
I used stones that came from the fireplace we had removed (for the woodburner) to make a raised bed, it probably looks a bit crap but we've got lettuce and beetroot growing in that. In the greenhouses we have peas and beans, we'll make a better effort next year. I'm battling with trying to remove all the bushes that had been allowed grow out of control before we moved here. We really need a quality petrol powered hedge cutter/strimmer and to hire a chipper because I have no idea how we are going to be able to dispose of it.

DIDO.1 22,838
I had a radish out of my raised bed yesterday. Bought one of those plastic greenhouses yesterday and put my chilli plants in it, also put 3 tomato plants in. I'm worried about my potatoes, I planted em in buckets... because they were deep buckets I threw some old soil in the bottom before putting the good stuff in on top....just realised is nasty clay I'd put in the bottom... hoping it's not wet and mouldy under my spuds, Iv drilled some holes in the side to let moisture out. Might plant some more just in case
