jok 3,211
Just had quick look, as you do, to see how things are going on. My Kelsie onions have really improved. I thought at one point they were goners but hey ho, nature has a way of sorting things out. I reckon there will be a few 4lbs among them. Made a strange soup last night. With the lovely one being in Teneriffe with the girls, I'm left to my own devices. I pulled a half grown pumpkin, an onion and a handful of rocket. In the souper with only salt added. Flipping lovely with that rocket peppery taste. Bit wish washy but lovely. Will let you know in due course how the judging went on. Jok.
terryd 8,384
Well one up on mr club root. The planting in mole hill soil worked even though it still got it a decent cabbage was in the bag by then no good doing half measures though and just using a little bit of soil needed a good hole full. jok 3,211
Where the hell did that idea come from Terry., never heard of it. We reckon club root needs 3 years to be gone without any brassica planting at all. Tell us more. Jok.

I just used mole hill because they are handy to grab a bag of on me travels bit of a pain in the ass considering i have two plots and i am running around collecting mole hills lol
jok 3,211
Can't even begin to get my head round that. Club root can be spread just by walking on the infected soil and wandering onto someone else's plot. Digging a hole and filling it with alien soil seems odd. However, if it worked, then good. terryd 8,384
Might put more thought into the pea frame next year these are so awkward even the pigeons are leaving them be The climbing tall peas are cropping well mind sweetcorn has perked up now not that I get too excited about its just for looks really as I have the room and you never know these are the high light of my year so far got nice cauli today as well and the wife has a busy evening shelling though she is worse than the pigeons but perks of the job I guess lol. Picked a few of the shallots and a few onions that never came to any thing. Will pickle them apparently dry for a week or two cover in salt then they pickle nice and crispy so I saw some one say on facebook one of the old fellas passed away this week but he kept his plot going until his eighties fair play and was there dam near every day. Real nice fella RIP Ralph
