darbo 4,776
I think my sweet corn suffered from a lack of pollination I did plant them in a block but let them get on with it as we had lots of wind so I didn't intervene and manually do any thing. We will try again next year Never mind terry you win some you lose some.I have not grown sweetcorn that often to be honest. Some of the blokes on the plot hand pollinate their plants will you give that a try next year? Yes I think so John all so plant much more. As I say it was windy so I thought that would do it but in hind site I probably just pollinated the guys 400 yards away
darbo 4,776
harvested some nice beetroot, spring onions, parsnips not grown so good think I didn't give them enough space so replanted them further apart see how they go. Mrs usually does tatties and garlic and various herbs. my first attempt to be honest never really made the time before but have enjoyed it so next year gonna do it again with some raised beds and plant more. Good luck for next year.
terryd 8,552
My first romanesco heading up it is only about 4 inch round at the moment not sure how big they get I will look it up. Thought I better get a pic before some thing goes wrong with it The slugs are running riot at the moment my tomatoes that have now all split with the rain are getting drilled. My beetroot I was leaving in the ground are getting ringed. My nice row of recently sown turnips I have about 3 left. Been putting pellets down and a nice row of dead slugs down my turnip row but they are unstoppable. You can only put so many pellets down before it starts getting bit ridiculous. Only need a few any way to be affective apparently. So I have given up on them now. The winter veg is looking good anyway because its a decent size Next high light of year will be when I pull a parsnip and fingers crossed they are better than my carrots
Tiercel 6,986
Terry, I tried many years ago to grow the romanesco cauli's and failed spectacularly. They are lovely to eat but do not grow as large as normal cauli's, even in the shops I have never seen them much over 7" in diameter. TC
terryd 8,552
Tallies with what I am reading Allan they seem be an in between of a cauli and broccoli looks like I better eat it at the weekend. They look great and a bit of a novelty shame they weren't the size of a foot ball. My daughter is looking forward to see it because apparently its a fibonacci number anyway she can count it and I will eat it
