Tiercel 6,986
When I first started on my allotments I was green to say the least. While most of the other allotment holders were very friendly and I did glean some great tips from them, when it came to problems and diseases with the plants they were just like myself a little green. So I decided to try and educate myself as to common plant maladies and how to remedy them, without resorting to some witches brew concotions. I tried a number of books and although they would be helpfull to an extent they always seemed a little vauge. Untill I came across this &ff14=108&ff19=0'>beauty It's cheap as chips and an easy read format and has helped me no end before the days of the internet. I cannot recommend this book highly enough. The only problem now is that a lot of the remedies they prescribe are no longer available, thanks to the bloody eu. TC Edited February 24, 2014 by tiercel

They make an ideal seed bed filled like that high out the way and easy to cover I have a spare bath down the plot. I showed my inexperience today I couldn't help my self and planted a short row of earlies. Layed some horse manure in the trench then a layer of dry compost from my bin and sat them in that. Worst that can happen is it costs me a dozen seed spuds I will make sure they are kept earthed up when any frosts are about and the netting will help. Picked some more cabbage and leeks made a good leek and potato soup when I got back purple sprouting has started but I am not sure how healthy the plants are spring cabbage and starting to come to life (durham early) broad beans are flowering so not sure if they will pull through. Plenty just sown though to replace them in toilet roll inserts gave the garlic a weeding another couple of weeks and it will be time for a tart [
