RubyTex 1,957 Posted August 26, 2013 Report Share Posted August 26, 2013 Well my strawberries did well, had enough for four people for a stawberries and cream dessert once a week, onion yield pretty poor, had about 4 buckets full of spuds, chive did well, rhubarb shot up then died back?! well that's me done for the year, gave the garden a little dig over and chucked some manure in....done 2 Quote Link to post Share on other sites

Tiercel 6,986 Posted August 28, 2013 Report Share Posted August 28, 2013 With regards to your caulis boys were the leaves tinted with a reddy rust colour. If so it sounds like cabbage rootfly. I have tried ever 'herbal remody' that is available, collars, planting them in holes and then scraping the sides of the stalk as it grows an back filling the hole to encourage new roots to form. None of it works for me. When I had the allotment I would give them one dusting of Bromphis and no problems. Now the bloody eec has put a stop to all chemical pest control for the gardener.
