Pups........

Recommended Posts

The man breeds out of failed injured and retired greyhound bitches back to his collie bred dogs that never leave their pens ... Neither parents will ever have worked and whilst that is true of a first cross collie greyhound at the very least the collie will be out doing its job day in day out and the greyhound will have been sourced correctly to have a good temperament and be sound with no re occurring injuries and hopefully will have one a few races .....The pups only contact with people is when they are fed on the cheapest of fish meal based dry food or when they are mucked out once a week .....The pups at 8 weeks of age will have had no mental stimulation and won't have been exposed to the sights sounds smells that a normally bred litter will encounter ... This has been proved many times to effect the dogs temperament in later life and thats why a lot of Hancock dogs are scatty and neurotic ........There is no need to go to a commercial breeder of lurchers in this day and age when there are plenty of home bred lurchers out of proven working lurchers being bred up and down the country .......To be honest anybody with half a clue about dogs would turn on their heels and head out the door once they see how the pups are being reared ........

brilliant post mate anyone who goes there for a dog in this day and age needs their head looked at

Chances are unless you know of rabbiting border collies and quality greyhounds most litters of f1s will be out of no working parents. I didn't like hancocks set up either but bought a pup from chuck

Cheers Bosun i havent seen any threequater greyhound breed that id want to own either mate summat to think about Woz. Yes she was litter sister to chuckles darbo here she is the merle.

He had a good coat thick skin and real good feet on him.

Well Im getting a Hancock, should be picking it up the start of April. A few reasons for this are 1, Im keen to have a collie cross and want a 3/4 grey 1/4 colliie.

2, Im the only person I know that hunts so have no contacts to see anyones dogs to make a decision about if I would want a pup if they bred any and I am there fore more confidant buying from someone who I know produces what I want and does the job which brings me on to 3, The posts and input I have read from lads on here who have them and are happy with them is good enough for me.The raw ingredients are there and surly its down to the effort you put in to produce the worker you want.

As far as puppy farmer goes, there is plenty of people out there and who knows even on here that make there living doing plenty worse than breeding dogs.

Regarding putting the effort in to make the worker you want i completely agree mate. I wish everybody on here had that attitude. To many c**ts in the game saying "he should of caught that rabbit, il dump him and get something else". Iv got an idea for you mate. Check your PMs.

Be good to hear a bit about the pup darbo.

She was as good an f1 as any other ive seen mate on fur and feather butchers were moaning about smashed rabbits that was why i went for a first cross she always carried back alive bless

Bosun thats a top bit of advice mate he definitely knows how they throw and what would suit.atb

The dog i had out of chuckles in 87. only made 24 . the dog showed a lot of potential was doing well on rabbits day and night and started to knock over hares daytime. had a great nose on him and was a belting retriever. cant say he was tested or how good or bad he would have become. he died just before reaching 2 years of age. real bad quality photo.

i went back juckler and got a f1 beardy/grey out of remus as a mate had got some very good lamping permission that he kindly allowed me on. this dog made 25 a real honest dog that always give its best. as tough as old boots. he lived 17 years. he also knocked over a good number of daytime hunted up hares. a decent lamper and worked well with the terrier bushing out for him. not a world beater but a decent dog. the one fault he did have was he was very hardmouthed. he crushed his first rabbit to the last at age 11. thats the last time i went to hancocks 1989. i dont know too much about the dogs he breeds today if im honest.seen a few decent ones out of his kennels in the 90s.

Too be honest juckler i heard hard to train wilful etc about the beardy cross but mine was the only one ive had contact with.He took a bit of time to mature but was easy to train and had a bomb proof temperament. a strong dog there was no picking and choosing his runs with this dog. he always gave his best as i said not a world beater but he put the effort in thats what i liked about him. have good memories of the dog. he was bred from a big coursing bitch a lovely animal.

The dam to him was a bitch called peaches from the linden eland line i believe. a very hardy tough dog he had some knocks but came out ok. i never bred from him to be honest ive never bred from any bitch ive had or used a dog ive had at stud. in the nineties onwards i saw the light in my opinion saluki lurcher cross collie lurcher  this type suited me fine only my opinion. had a few of these one very good bitch. my last bitch died 3 years ago and has not been replaced. had a few problems to deal with regarding my wifes health. hope fully next year i will get a pup in fingers crossed. i have a 6 year old beddy dog which is my marking dog for ferreting and he does the job fine. in the future i will probably get a ferreting mooching type. im nearly 50 now ferreting and mooching im quite happy with that these days. i have heard a few good things about the beddy lurcher to beddy lurcher types that t.aherne breeds and i have had a chat with him a real nice bloke. so when the time comes i will get in contact with terry and have a talk to him.

Its nice to read a few post's from lads that have done a bit with out it turning into a slagging match, i,v come to the same conclusion as you Darbo, iam 55 now and have just got my first Beddy based running dog, well, 3/4 whippet 1/4 beddy tbh, after years of bigger dogs, its ferreting and mooching for me from now on, it,ll come to all of you one day :cray: , its easy'r to get and keep permision with a dog that looks like it cant catch owt bigger than a rabbit, atb, buster.

my old mate buster kept the beddy types for 30 years he also always had a big dog for hares mainly 3/4 grey 1/4 deerhound. seen some good beddy types over the years real sharp dogs ideal for the mooching game. thats the road i will be going down. good luck with your young dog.
