i was out lamping tonight an i brought my pair of bitches first course my brindle bitch picked second course my fawn bitch picked and third course i sliped my brindle bitch on a rabbit squating in de middle of de feild an she turned de rabbit a ran strait back towards me picked de rabbit and hit de ditch full speed an killed herself stone dead she died wit de rabbit in her mouth a great bitch she was anall she was stone dead fist time it ever happend to me i heard about it hapining but it never hapend to me i lamped on an got another 13 with my other bitch an was unluckey not to get a fox aswell it was a good and bad night but shur thats lamping for ya

Lost a bitch exactly in the same circumstances a load of years back she also hit a ditch head on and broke her neck mate and not so much of a twitch out of her,stone dead she was.And to be honest I did the same as yerself. We put the bitch back In the van and carried on with the other lads dogs a few mile on up the road.It didn't make my loss any easier that night, it was a great wee dog but me and the other lads had travelled 40-50 miles for that nights lamping and we had only started .It may be hard for some people to take, that you carried on hunting as did I ,but I can assure those guys the dog never knew, she was treasured when alive and, she got buried the next morning with full honours. A lot of the people who are shocked at your story must not do too much lamping or hunting because loosing a dog is part and parcel of the game now and again if your at it hard. Certainly if you go out once a month or once every two months as I suspect with some of these guys you might escape it happening to you, but I know of very very few hunting men who are out lamping on a regular basis who have not had a dog either injured, badly injured or killed. Or it could be that you and me are the unluckiest dog owners in the world Respect or lack of it for the dog only comes into this argument if the dog is injured and needs to see a vet and you carried on hunting or indeed left an injured dog until the next morning before seeking assistance.
