baw 4,360
Yep I do tomo, pm's are private, don't you go spitting the dummy out revealing I'm a lover of the saluki Quote Link to post
riohog 5,701
Baw why do you think salukis are slow ? I know most of this is a wind up,,, but honestly you ain't seen many run,,,if any . On the flip side ,, I have,, and timed them on hedge land.. And seen them kill on the same land,,, and some big names Now your at the wind up tomo lol. I've seen salukis straight lined, I've seen them carried off the field. I've also seen some decent animals but you can call them anything but fast isn't a term I'd use. You double up a saluki with a really good 3/4 collie grey and the saluki will be a spectator at best, seen it happen. Aye you'll get quicker salukis than those fen plodders and I know they don't need speed in the locker but saluki fast??? no they aint fast desert antilope and fen hare ,are just very slow 1 Quote Link to post
baw 4,360
Lol riohog, 2 places they excel with no cover, they're speed bombs Quote Link to post

border lad 1,047
its happened to me on 2 or 3 occassions, waiting 20 minutes or more for him to come back, he was 2or3 fields away, the minute you give that saluki dog abuse you have lost the game, and all the work I put into this fellow to get him to a good standard, I am not prepared to dump him for his DEAF EAR tactics, the saluki x is not the dog for the novice, if you could get the right balance of a touch of collie and saluki mix, for scottish land you are on a winner, but the dog has to have the gears, or you are not going anywere, a plodder, a speed merchant with NO wind is a complete waste of time, just getting the right balance, for the job, 1 Quote Link to post
Astanley 11,565
Lets get this straight , if salukis were any good the greatest lurcher man of the 21st century ( markbrick ) would use them , he doesn,t so they arn,t , end of story . it,s about time this thread got nasty Quote Link to post

Carraghs Gem 1,675
Aye the good old saluki is very popular. For me, the guys who own them fall into 2 categories... The coin chasers and the wannabees. The coin chasers are easy to spot, they have a selection of pups all year round, more interested in saving face than running hares. Come out with patter like..... I wouldn't get out of bed for £500 stud fees. They even have been known to sell frozen spunk of dogs long gone. Usually have over inflated egos, have totally forgot why they got into the game in the first place. They see ££££ signs instead of hares. The wannabees are more abundant. They can be easily spotted. Nose constantly brown, know the lineage of every saluki cross going back generations. They normally have a pup from the coin chasers, might not be directly but even if its a second cousin of the dogs auntie, they'll let you know about it. They like to be the first to let everyone know what the coin chasers are doing and how they were given the privilege of walking in the same field as their chosen hero. Every dog that isn't from lineage they know of is no use. Information to the wannabee is god, the more they know the better, even better if its a secret. They generally have several pups coming along at the one time, all worldbeaters like their favourite coin chasers. If I was standing in the street. Guy coming towards me on my left with a saluki..... Guy right approaching with a scruffy lurcher. Both asked me to go out for a chase..... I know who I'd go with every time Which am i then baw? As im still scratching me head wondering how i ended up with a sal x when i was looking for a deerhound x pup Quote Link to post
baw 4,360
Agree borderlad, a speed bomb with no wind is a waste of time, hence why greyhounds are useless. Collie or deerhound add wind though. Nervous dogs I just can't go. I like to be myself around my mutts, f**k that tippy toe carrymenonsense. I feel your character rubs off on your dogs. Any pup I've had has been boisterous. I've never had a saluki pup. Ok, I've had a saluki a long long time ago (never told you that bit tomo) it was a mates, mates dog if that makes sense. Long story short, he got a good job abroad, can't mind where, worked in the oil game. Dog was 18 months, pretty green. It was ok, nothing special. Wasn't nervous or nowt. I had it for 5 years but it died in field. When I had it I was caught up in the saluki bug. Went out to see one on trial. This one was the dogs bollox. It wasn't slow, it was fa..... Errr quick watched it single handed destroy a hare on taxing ground. Seen it run doubled up and it led from start to finish. I was getting this dog. I was getting it a week later but never did. The guy ran it in between then and f****d the dog. So there we have it, baw the saluki man Quote Link to post
