pmatty77 26
Just wondering how people do their nets,i was taught to lay them slightly down the hole so as to get rabbits feet into net first,i now prefer to put them flat over the hole, reason being is when i put them down the hole seems easier for the ferret to get tangled up in when they pop up...any views? Dazzam 239
Usually neat and careful at the beginning of the day but untidy and careless as the day wears on 1 Quote Link to post
Sirius 1,391
Any way that will catch a rabbit, depends on what terrain your working. 1 Quote Link to post
stinkers 102
I tend not to put my nets in the hole......more cover the entrance than anything else. May leave it a bit lose into the hole but not the bottom of the net, just the bagging in the middle. Quote Link to post
Sirius 1,391
Depending on the hole lol put the ring in the hole (sounds dodgy) most important is to have plenty of net above the hole so it falls on the rabbit as it bolts in to it. 1 Quote Link to post
Nobby 65
Like sirius says any way that will catch the rabbit and not every rabbit hole is the same some times i drop the bottom ring in the hole some times just cover it or stretch side to side there are so many variables pasture' hedges etc etc.The more ferreting you do it becomes a sixth sense you know the way your going to lay the net as your getting it out your pocket i like a 4ft net as you can cover more with them and they suit the ferreting i do . I like to have a net with a good length of draw cord on them it gives you some scope to find a place to put your peg in and when you wrap the net up it stays wrapped up a good tip i picked up on the thl is to try and keep your draw string taut not to much slack when you lay your net so the net is pursing soon as the rabbit hits it . foxtails 272
yep agree 4ft nets do me fine too, and a also a good lenghth of draw cord, also, to fing some where to peg, nobby's got the right idea, i do the same,, but after a while youl just know how your going to set it before you get it out of your pocket. also with the smaller nets its harder to dispatch your rabbit,as theres not enough room left,(the net gets to tight) atb mate fts Quote Link to post
The one 8,477
Every holes slightly different and has to be judged when you come to net it but as said i like a good bit of net on the burrow floor then open the rest up to cover the outside of the hole , but i also sometimes spread the net round the mouth of the hole and if a odd one slips away thats what the lurchers there for Quote Link to post
