it's my line coz i'm the bloke responsible for breeding the half brother x half sister breeding ...does my old dog look like a 3/4 grey 1/4 bull to you ? coz he does to me ! which is what ginger told me he was

I take your point Waldorf but if we use terriers as an example, genuine lines have been created worker to worker but these lines were started somewhere.....from dogs of possibly mixed backgrounds (an I'm not sayin yours is Cred :) ) right down the lines, long before people kept records.

If it works and works well, then try to replicate, keep lines close with only the odd outcross. Yes it would be nice to know exactley how every lurcher is bred but its working ability that counts. :)

well said mate , at the end of the day i'm trying to replicate my old dogs blood line because he is a very hard worker ..... his off spring on the other hand might be shit ....but that is my gamble that i'm willing to take

well there you go ceredigion bull cross

i guess its worker to worker :clapper:

ok BOB , let's get something straight from the off , i own 1 hancocks lurcher , and 3 bull x's ..........1 bull x is working and has been since he was 6 months old , his daughter is 11 months old and has started on rabbit's the third bull x is a son from the first bull x mentioned above he is only a few weeks old and is a half brother to the 11 month old mentioned above i have used the same stud dog on 2 different bitches .....if you have followed up to now you will understand a pattern for a line breeding to take place in the future which will be half brother to half sister ....... this i would consider to be a serious bit of planning on my part as i have been carefull in selecting the right bitches for my dog ....... that is so we get WORKER to WORKER .......... why then have i got a hancocks bred lurcher aswell ??? simple answer . i wanted a first cross collie/grey with no other added bits of mutt in it ..... why ask if people would buy a pup from untested parents ? again simple answer ....if i ever feel the need to breed a litter out of my hancocks bitch i won't be putting them on here for sale !!!! and before any puppy peddling bullshit starts , i'll put you all straight now ....I AM NO PUPPY PEDDLAR ....... to be honest and blunt , when the line breeding above takes place there are a few selected mates having pups only :feck: edited to add i did not vote :tongue2:

puppy peddlar :feck:

i am not going to have a row with you,but ginger brought in other peoples jackers, and peddled out the pups with the same lies he brought the parents in with, the terminator is out of meg, that makes him a 3/8 5/8,

so you can understand the importance of breeding worker to worker

as you feel your bull x is a good worker and youve put him to another good worker

so you can start your own line of what you hope will be good workers from tryed and tested stock :victory:

now with all that knolage youve built up over the years

of breeding from tryed and tested dogs

why would you go out and buy an hancock :icon_eek:

you say it becuase you wanted to know exatly how much from each part was in the mix

but then you talk of buying a dog off frenchy

(and yes im finding this hard to follow)

you say you baught this bitch so you might breed from her

but you dont want to be called a peddler

and the left over pups from your bull x your giveing to your mates

then you say its a gamble that your prepared to make

but its just not you who are gambleing its your mates as well

and also the dogs

what happenes to all of them if they not good workers

and if you wanted to start your own line surley

you would start with ...................no im not going to keep going

as its starting to sound like im haveing a pop at you when im realy not

i just dont get your logic

good luck to you and all your dogs :victory::victory:

Well perhaps a slight touch of sarcasm but how many people do you know that have went through umpteen dogs and never owned a decent one and its never down to them.

I would say the opposite seems more true. I've rarely read posts in the lurcher section that one didn't refer to their lurchers as " keen as mustard"

Seems not matter what two you put together most will say their's are excellent on the lamp and catch two out of three. Will someone get real on how many of these lurchers or longdogs actually make the grade. You guys are getting me to believe that 100 % or nearly 100% make the grade.

Doubt very much if the success rate is anything like 100% in fact it's probably nothing like it, so we have a dillema in that

1 everyones idea of a worker is different

2 worker to worker is no guarantee

3 or the lurcher worlds full of messers.

Take your pick.

All of the above :whistling:

or the notion of breeding a line /type of lurcher is a fallacy based on myths by so called writers in the past, whatever reason anyone may choose to go down this route just be wary, it is Rocket Science or science to an effect.

Good Luck to you all that are attempting to do it, I don't envy you. Be prepared for some crap, some mediocre, some good and MAYBE some outstanding dogs... be preprared to cull hard if your intention is to produce the top, open your eyes when choosing stud dogs, they might be world beaters but they might throw shit, where do you go then ...

Ask yourself the question why do you want to do it ???

allright bob , some interesting points you have made , firstly when i bought my old dog of ginger i did not know the man or anything about him , as far as his integrity goes i think he is bullshitter , but never the less has turned out some good working dogs , as you can see i have learned a lesson in taking peoples WORD FOR IT that is a good reason in its self to breed my own line , HANCOCKS and why have i got one , coz i fecking wanted one and i have enough room for one , a puppy peddlar i am not .... but i must admit with all these bitch's round me it is tempting ..... the truth is tho Bob that after breeding a litter and then trying to find responsible homes for them it allways leaves the question in the back of ones mind ..... and that question is i wonder if the new owner of the pup i sold is looking after ok or is he using the pup for a punch bag insted of punching the misses .....enough said on my part you reply what you like , i will do what i please when i please and i won't be selling / giving a pup to you :feck: edited to add , if my bull x line fails {which i doubt it will} i will allready have a mature working hancocks bitch so that i can start all over again with a different line  that's what you call edging your bets :tongue2:
