BULL 96
Could anyone explain what work a Bull Terrier will of done which will aid it in lurcher work when put to as joe ox says usually any old Greyhound ,plenty of folk have 1/2 cross Bull/Grey's or does it not matter with Bull x's the bull is usually american or long legged staff and from fighting line of dogs it gives the lurcher more tanacity biting power and a massive pain barrier these dogs never seem to give up and when bull is intruduced to any lurcher it seems to give them that little bit extra go, ive seen 12 different dogs/bitches work they have all been self entering at about 10 months and grew to very good lurchers on all quarry, i was put of them for years as i was told they were thick as shit but I've yet to see a stupid one. The first one i saw was 12 years ago, i bought one 2 years ago and have never looked back. Quote Link to post

Ive never understood the 'stupid tag' attatched to bull's either Or peoples reasons for slagging them off......"they will attack sheep, farm collies, children...not to be trusted at all around other dogs" etc etc. What absolute bullshit. It shows peoples ignorance about working/fighting pure bulls or their crosses. Or they have only ever seen untrained, barely worked bull x's. Such a shame because they make fabulous companions as well as workers. MOLL. Quote Link to post

Paul in North Lincs 15
it certainly makes sense if you are wanting to breed a working dog............. I find this quite a daft question really :wallbash: Quote Link to post

Paul in North Lincs 15
I have never rated hancocks dogs to be fair and have heard nothing but crap reports about them......(light the blue tape and wait for the bang)........for me I want a dog to be a hunting machine.............so proven workers for me all the way............. often dosnt always mean they'll turn out good but at least your trying to eliminate the possiblity of obtaining a duff..... if you want a pet.....................ge to Jerry Greens Dog Sanctuary Quote Link to post
Guest reload
Worker to worker is the best option obviously:D But thats very well BULL saying all that about bull terriers, but its what they did in the past init...not many dog pits around thank god. Most track greyhounds have not done what you want a lurcher to do, so surly its finding a suitable strain, maybe it does not always matter if the sire worked?...does it...if its from the right stuff. I am sure you could pull a pedigree show bred whippet, with the right stuff in its background and start it for work? :search: :search: Its just the risk of failer is higher, but theres a risk in all dogs, even worker too worker. Just fishing for people thoughts. Quote Link to post

Just fishing for people thoughts. im not glorifying dog fighting i was just stating the reason why bull is put into these lurchers/greyhounds,answering the mans question and clarifying what type of bull terriers are used and why.i didnt mean the sire to my bull cross was a fighting dog in the sense that it fights to date just that the pitbull in genral is a fighting strain and that drive/determination /tenacity is an ingedient needed in my perticuler all round type of hunting.for instance one of my other dogs is a 20'whippit/greyhound bitch lovely on some of the terrain in devon (small fields)only rabbits as anything else she cant hold.comes of hedges fox hare but an excellent rabbiting bitch, the point im making there is dog for everyone in hunting and everyones ideal dog is different, mine is the bull cross Quote Link to post
