sams-man 44
i had my bitch at the vet this afternoon, she has a growth on one of her toes, after a 2min check i was advised the growth would be cut out & possibly sent for a biopsy, after asking what cost this would be i was told it would be £200+ just to have the growth removed then addons for stitches & antibiotics afterwords then the price of the biopsy on top of that, after questioning the bill i was told that the anisthetic alone was £95 + vat ..needles to say a`ll be looking at other vets now Quote Link to post

LaraCroft 863
Not that shocking. I've been a vet nurse for many years - the first place I worked at was a one vet practice. He would regularly take in cats/dogs with vomiting and diarrhoea because he could "feel" something inside them. He would knock them out with gas anaesthetic, cut through the skin on the belly, sew it back up with 4-6 stitches. He would show the owners an xray of a cat abdomen with a drawing pin in its tummy, and charge the owners £100's for xrays, operation etc etc - when it was nothing more than an upset tum. Not all vets are the same - I have worked with some amazing people - but, they run a business, and no one looks over their shoulder like they do in the NHS. Quote Link to post

I went into vet nursing as a naive 17 year old, and it was quite an eye opener. Not all vets, but enough to tarnish the reputation. I'm a softie - I freely admit that I would sell my house if it meant one of my dogs got the treatment he needed - but the unnecessary stuff they try to do is just wrong. Quote Link to post
